Some of my friends often asked me which software is the most appropriate to use? If I'd have to settle with just one CDR / DVDR burning software, then Nero would be it.

Nero Burning ROM is probably the best all-in-one CDR/DVDR application on the market.

Nero combines huge amounts of features in a compact and easy to use package. It handles disc dublicating and pre-mastering with ease, supported by a cover designer and even an audio file editor.

The excellent GUI desing keeps all the functions handy and guarantees that simple tasks can be done quickly.
Download plugins for Nero from Neroplugins.

You really need to discuss Nero 7 Ultra's other apps too as Nero Burning Rom is not a standalone product. I have used every part of this Suite (currently using v7.2.3.2b),but mainly Nero Vision, Recode and Burning Rom.

Burning Rom works really great. I bet that at least 99% of the problems blamed on Nero are hardware, media and software problems that are NOT Nero's fault. One of the main burning problems is Media that the burner does not "like." After LG recommended some media I chose Verbatim and have had 400 out of 400 successful burns at 16x. You don't realize how great a simple burning app like this is until you try to use other burning apps.

Nero Recode works very well. I believe Nero Digital AVC is currently number one (by a small margin) compared to the other available codecs for encoding H. 264 files. Of course ,if you want to convert other video format into H.264, I recommend Xilisoft Video Converter 3.1 ,which supports converting video files between DVD, VCD, RM, AVI, MPEG, WMV, h264 etc. You can even convert to Divx compatible format using MP4CAM2AVI most files. The "Main Movie" DVD-9 to DVD-5 option is the easiest I have seen. If your movie will fit the DVD-5 or encodes at 90% I recommend Nero Recode.

As a Suite, if you use two or three of the main apps Nero is well worth the money and the interface while initially daunting to some just makes sense once you've used it a few times and the product is amazingly stable despite all the blaming to the contrary. I believe that Nero Burning ROM should be a standalone product that costs $25-$30 for people that only need to burn.

If you have questions related to Nero, please visit our unofficial Nero support forums.1) You've not posted a link for your "unofficial" forum

2) I'm quite sure that any NERO-related questions that arise at the Doom9 forums can be properly answered at the Doom9 forums

3) It handles disc dublicating and pre-mastering with easeWidely stated problems regarding proper layer break locating

FYI, I'm a firm supporter of using many, but not all, of NERO's features...

I prefer Roxio. I just installed Easy Media Creator 9 which includes everything Nero 7 full does, and more.

I have Nero 7 Ultra and wish I hadn't bought it. The Burners is OK, but the other programs are primitive to say the least. Nero Vision is a mess and lacks any logical approach to editing anything. What is needed are KISS Principle programs that are as simple as the old Reel to Reel Film Editors and Sound Editors for Cutting and Pasting. The hell with all the silly tools, filters and gadgets.

I use Nero Burning ROM, and own the HD-DVD / Blu-Ray pack for its audio decoders.

The rest, I can live without. I always disable just about everything else when installing it.

Nero would be great, except...
1) Not only does it create shortcuts in my Start menu without asking, it actually recreates them every time it runs! Annoying! I don't want a shortcut there!

2) "Incredible offer! Click here and save!" That right there is enough to make me wish I could find another program that worked. Eww.

To me Nero seems like they wrote a pretty good burning app, then crapped on it. It does its job well, but man is it ever annoying!

(I did manage to find a hack to get around #1, though. Make a "Nero" folder yourself with Hidden, System, Read-Only attributes.)

@HyperHacker

Hi!

It sounds like you're using a demo version...

I use Nero for burning CDs...

I use ImgBurn for ALL of my DVD burning, but for CDs I really feel that Nero is the best product available. Easy to use, lots of control over advanced options, and it handles mutlitrack/multi burn CDs with no problem.

I've only got two complaints about Nero:
1. It costs money.
2. It does some weird stuff with caching its installer files... Once I accidentally screwed up the install, but was unable to repair or reinstall, because it couldn't find its cache files.

Me too... for me that was also the best software in terms of burning...
