Making a dvd with AVIs

Hi
How would i go about making a dvd on a 4.7 disk with avis? if the files are from a video recoarder and are compressed to avi so fairly large avis. I would like to be able to play this on a dvd player.
Would making an iso image then using dvd shrink work?

There are many, many ways to do what you want. Programs like Roxio and Nero can import them, freeware solutions such as AVI2DVD, among others.

basically i tried using Nero but it says the file size is too big and i dont really want to use lots of dvds, also i have been looking at Dvd shrink, how much can it compress an image?

Kindly read up on the forum and learn more about what you want to do. It would take days or weeks to get the information from you that I'd need to formulate an answer when all the answers you could possibly need are already on this forum. For example, did you use Nero to try and burn a video disk, or are you just dragging and dropping files onto the Nero icon and it's trying to burn a data disk? Done properly, Nero can burn two hours of video onto a standard DVD, but it can't create an oversized project that you can import into DVD Shrink. For that you need to look into reauthoring tools, or try AVI2DVD.

Hi!

A) If the files are from a video recorder, then those files are already in DVD format - and you should be able to simply duplicate the disc(s)

B) If your standalone DVD player has .AVI playback capability, simply burn your .AVIs as data DVDs

C) One set of procedures (other posters may/probably will suggest alternative methods) to convert .AVI to DVD would be:

1) Use "TMPGEnc" (or "TMPGEncPlus") to convert the .AVI
(DivX-compressed or otherwise) to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this

2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" v.1.6 (a different program than
"TMPGEnc") to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)

**If the combined filesize of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress

If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode
(As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use
"DVDLab")

Ive been trying nero vision and then my computer crashed mysteriousely during the night :angry: so i guess im gonna have to start again

Forget Nero and read the excellent guides on the main Doom9 site on frameserving. You will be able to do what you want with free tools, and the quality of the resulting files will be largely superior than with Nero!
I's a little bit more difficult to do, but the free apps involved in the process are robust, and will not crash every time like Nero!

The first two items listed in my first response to yuor thread were, in effect questions, so I'll ask them again:

I also provided you with a detailed alternative to NEROVision - and I'm wondering if you've yet tried it. It only looks complicated ;>}

BTW, in addition to the programs I've mentioned, as stated by "rOlZ", there are other freeware alternatives. NEROVision is, as you know, one of many programs in the NERO suite - and it certainly doesn't "crash every time"...

Yea the files are recompressed avis, and they dont play on my dvd player as for other methods havent got around to trying yet.

Also, if I can strike a blow for DVD2SVCD (please go to the whole dedicated forum on doom9, where you may have the opportunity to learn a lot about...), there is a mode into this application e.g. AVI to DVD, which fits exactely with the needs of knave0...

Speaking by experience, since I had the opportunity of using this application quite extensively this summer...
