View Full Version : AVI with 0x0161(MSAUDIO2) -> AVI with 0x0055(MP3): Simplest way?

I've got a Philips DVP642, which will play AVI files directly (I just burn the files onto a CDR or DVDR). However, it doesn't handle certain audio codecs. I have several AVI files with 0x0161(MSAUDIO2) or plain PCM which it won't play (I just get video, no sound).
I'd like to convert these AVIs to have 0x0055(MP3). I don't want to transcode the video (it's fine the way it is), and I don't want to create a DVD. I just need another AVI file with a different audio codec.
I have several of these AVI files that need to be converted, so I'd like to get some kind of script or batch set up that will do all of them in sequence, without having to do a lot of manual steps on each AVI file. What tools would be best for this kind of automated setup? I'd be willing to invest in commercial tools if need be, since I have so many of these AVIs.
Any tips or pointers appreciated.

Hi!
1) Use VirtualDub - Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy" and "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
2) Under "Audio", select the .MP3 settings you desire
3) Use VirtualDub's "Job Control" function to set each video to be saved with a new filename
4) When you've loade the final video to be converted, select "Start" from within the "Job Control" window...

It works brilliantly!
Took me a while to find VFW compatible codecs that VirtualDub was happy with. Tried the ffdshow ones, and enabled the appropriate VFW codecs in the config tool, but no luck. Finally found these: http://www.undercut.org/msmpeg4/
which did the trick.
I've converted one set of AVIs, burned them on a DVDR, and they play perfectly, with sound. Got another set converting now.
Thanks so much!

my virtualdub wont play this 0x0161 codec at all and i can't even compress it with lame mp3... the only way i can export a video is to use direct stream copy on the audio, but it seems that its couple of frames off...
any ideas which codec should i install? i tried this: http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/302832-0x0161-%28WMA-v2%29 but didnt work...
the link in this thread seems a bit old as it doesnt even mention win7?

tried now, but i had to choose the "this program installed correctly" option after the installation... and nothing new seems to be in the audio compression list...
