Can anyone recommend a decent home DVD player that will play DVD+R DL backups with no issues?

So far I've been considering the Pioneer DV-490V-S or a Panasonic player in the $75-125 price range.

P.S. I always use Verbatim DL media and burn no higher than 4x with PcgEdit/Imgburn.

Hi!

Virtually any model of name brand player that's a year or so old or less should handle D/L +Rs without problems...

Pioneer, Toshiba, Philips, etc...

Despite what other Philips DVP642 owners have said, mine has problems with play/resume on DL discs. Whenever I pause a DVD+R DL movie backup over 5 minutes and then resume, it seeks until finally ending in a disc error. I only use Verbatim DL media and burn no higher than 4X. The discs check out fine with CD-DVD Speed (low PI errors/failures and jitter is always in the green range). I've tried different firmwares with the same results. It plays burned SL and all pressed (commercial) DVDs fine.

This is why I want to make absolutely certain my new player doesn't act like this. The DVP642 was supposedly an excellent player for burned discs but mine just can handle DL backups.

BTW - One of my players is, in fact a DVP642/37 and it plays my burned Verbatim D/L DVD+Rs flawlessly.. Besides that fact, there are several different Philips models, just as there are several different models of all of the major brand names...

I had returned my first DVP642 because it wouldn't play anything at all, not even pressed DVDs. This is my second unit. I don't doubt others' experience with the DVP632, but my experience with it has been quite a bad one and I will not purchase another player from them,at least not in the near future any way.

BTW, I'm not the only one who has had trouble with this player. See here:

It appears that the DVP642 is a hit-or-miss player. Some have good luck with it and some, like myself, don't.

Fine ;>}

I'd still suggest that virtually any model of name brand player that's a year or so old or less should handle D/L +Rs without problems...

Pioneer, Toshiba, Philips, etc..And if you have a personal reason to exclude any and all Philips' models from your consideration, by all means,do so...
