No License Acqusation For Any DRM File Played in Windows Media

For a while now, in fact months, DRM has failed to acquire any license to any played protected file in Windows Media Player. I open the proteced DRM video file. It waits and says connecting.. then seconds later i recieve this annoying message. It doesnt connect to the internet even though I have the setting checked in the options.

I have tested many different sites for protected videos including:

every one eventually gives me that message. I have tried backing up my current drm folder and updating it from

http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp

Still gives me the message. Honestly im pretty f*ucking tired of drm and im sure everyone is. I even updated to windows media player 11 to see if i could solve it. Nope. Nothing will work. If i stream a drm protected file online it works perfectly fine, goes to a license acqusation page and says it installs a license yet actually doesn't. i open the file and bam it goes to the message. There is no "oh this might work... maybe?... yes?" I've searched everywhere, and can't find anyone with the same problem. I do have a firewall - ZoneAlarm. I've checked allow on all windows media programs. I even tried turning it off, with no luck. Basically this is my last resort. No one seems to be able to help, and send me to places I've already been to to try and fix this. Maybe one of you actually can help me fix this.

- do you have any other programs installed that might interfere with WMP? e.g. xp-AntiSpy.
- do you have any other programs running that might block internet access? e.g. some IP blocker like PeerGuardian etc.
- try to uninstall WMP along with the WM runtimes and reinstall WMP.
- try to think of anything you did at the time before the problem first surfaced that might have caused the issue.
- have a look at the two WM DRM threads in the decrypting forum to see how to delete your DRM keys. that might solve it.
- if that all doesn't help reinstall Windows.

What's funny is that RealPlayer opens the files perfectly fine. Opens the acqusation page and everything. I'd be completely happy but I'd rather use windows media so I could remove the drm If I wanted.

I have AVG Anti Spyware, Kasper Spy, and Ad-Aware.
ZoneAlarm is set to allow and I have turned it off and on to see if it would work.

It seems like it just won't connect to the internet through wmp. It opens then says connecting but stops after a few seconds. i don't know what could be blocking the internet access though. It's set to 'connect to internet' and the 'work offline' is unchecked.

It should work if you ask it to open content online, without downloading, right? Which makes it a real kicker. Are you connecting through a personal firewall, or is it one of the corporate-type ones? If it's at work with one of those, it may be blocking certain ports. (Or only allowing certain ones, rather.) Otherwise I have no idea.

I dont know the difference between corporate and the personal... It's the free ZoneAlarm firewall. Do i have to uninstall it to make it unblock the ports or would simply closing it do the job?

In the old times, closing ZoneAlarm did not unblock ports, but it was years ago (haven't test it since then). Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if uninstalling ZA solved your problem...
