View Full Version : ImgBrn: Verify Errors on +R DL Media, But Disks Work

The last couple of times I've burned a backup onto a DL disk with ImgBrn, I've gotten a Verify Error. The first one was at 93 or 99% and on Remember the Titans it was at 84%.

Both titles played on my new Philips player though, although neither one would play on my Panasonic S35, but I don't think the Panasonic has accepted any DL backups I've done.

The media is Memorex +R DL from a spindle.

Any thoughts on this Verify Error?

Edit: In a third or maybe this is 4th project I got another Verify error on Van Helsing at 95% but it played OK (on just the Phillips player.) Then I finally got a burn that went through without a verify error (Walk the Line.) Next movie, Friday Night Lights, verify errors at 90 and 91% that I was able to Continue through, then error at 99% that requied Cancel Verify...Disk worked on 1 of 2 players.

Probably bad media, for DL I would only use Verbatim +R.
Bitsetting to DVD-ROM might help as well.

Hi,
I saw that recommendation in the ImgBrn Guide but without any explanation of what it is or how or where to set it. Could you advise? Currently under device, my "Current Profile" and "Book Type" is DVD-ROM if that means anything.

Should I change anything under Advanced Settings? I have a Lite-On Drive. Should I go to Forced HyperTuning or anything?

Under Book Drive and Lite-On, there is a setting for +R DL - EEPROM. Should I use that?

Yes, but it will not help unless you rid yourself of those garbage Memorex disks and buy some good Verbatims.

Otherwise, you will simply be back here, blaming this setting and that, instead of taking care of the real problem - you have bought inferior media.

A verify error isn't uncommon, but the only true test is whether or not it plays all the way through successfully. As far as bitsetting, if I remember correctly it's enabled by default. As it says in ImgBurn, "If you don't know what you're doing, click OK."

As far as your Panasonic, well, not all players can even read a burned DL disk. If it plays in one standalone player, there's probably nothing wrong with the burn or the settings used.

We're gunna differ on this one CWR03. A verify error should not happen - it is a read back of the disk and a bit for bit comparison. A disk can play but not be the exact thing you burned - and the naked eye may not pick up discrepencies.

A verify gives confidence that your drive can read back perfectly what you just wrote.

That, in my opinion, would constitute a "successful burn." :) I guess I should've said that it's not uncommon with crappy media. I haven't yet tried Verbatim DL media myself, but the cheapo "GQ" brand DL stuff from Fry's does usually give an error or two. All burns with them have played.

Perhaps if the error is in the MPEG oir AC3 streams, one might not notice, except perhaps, for a quick "what was that?". But if it is in an IFO, you may have troubles with navigation.

Anyways, each to their own.

Well, even if my disks are not top quality, are you sure changing those settings wouldn't help? And were you saying yes to both settings I referenced in my OP?

garbage Memorex disks
How did you come to determine Memorex +R DL disks are no good? I didn't see any review of them on the ImgBrn Support Forum>General>Drives & Media.

I don't have any test data, but I know Memorex is... one of the biggest recording media companies and sells a ton of media and enjoys a generally good reputation.

@TomBrooklyn

You have but to read the (literally) thousands of posts, based on first hand experience, at this and the many other DVD-related forums to discover two things for yourself:

1) Memorex branded DVD media (regardless of Manufacturer ID) are of poor quality

2) Thusfar, the only consistently reliable D/L DVD media are Verbatim DL DVD+R (And DL DVD-R should be avoided like the plague)

You can't rely on old reputations - It's been many, many years since anyone's asked, "Is it live, or is it Memorex?"

If I didn't know better Tom, I'd swear you worked for Memorex, after what amounts to nearly an advertisment/spam in your last post.

Please remove the "promo" for memorex from your post.

I figured as much. Thanks for removing it.

The price on Verbatim's +R DL hasn't dropped a penny in the last five months. In fact it just went up a couple of dollars to $41. for 20 at NewEgg.

Tom, although I don't understand the purpose of your most recent post to this thread, I'd advise you to look around a bit more diligently - Less than a month ago, I purchased Verbatim D/L DVD+Rs for $1.50 each, at both Best Buy and Office Max, far less than the $2.05 you're quoting

(Since you've quoted in dollars [without stating "Australian" or "Liberian"], I presume you're in the U.S....)

On burns with no verify error, Verbatim +R DLs with rare exceptions don't play on my Phillips DVP5140, but they play fine on my Panasonic P35. The exact opposite of what I experienced with Memorex DLs as described in my OP, even without the verify error. The Verbatims also play fine in a Sony player I have.

Weird?
