I'm hooking a friend up with all the free versions of RB for now. I've always used CCE so I don't know which of included free encoders is the best choice. Can anyone give any input? (This won't be a flame war I hope.)

No flame war but this is violating forum rule 12:
Do not ask "what's best" because this question cannot be answered objectively. Each and everyone has their own view about what's best in a certain area. The best is what works best for you!

IMHO both HC encoder and AutoQMatEnc do a pretty good job.

No flame war but this is violating forum rule 12Thanks. I can understand the need for such a rule, but I can also understand the occasional need for this type of question. But, in case keeping with the letter of the law is vitally important, I didn't really ask, "Which is best?"; I asked for each person's input.

IMHO both HC encoder and AutoQMatEnc do a pretty good job.Regarding HC encoder, I notice that the default quality/speed setting is default. Is there a significant difference between default and best? Better yet, is there a guide that covers each encoder in detail?

I'm still welcoming others' opinion, btw, even if it merely reaffirms one already given.

I've only had experience with HC...

It'd be nice if people uploaded some comparison clips *wink wink*
