View Full Version : Problem with DaVinci Code, and DL finalizing.

Ah yes, long time no post.
Anyway, here's my problem. Making a backup of my original DaVinci Code, disc one, region one. Ripped with ripit4me to an ISO, and burned to Verbatim DL disc. I'm assuming it didn't finalize, because it will play in the computer, but not my set top box.
Can I finalize after the burn, or is there a way to find out if the problem is with the program, that I can adjust?
Thanks, and nice to be back,
Racer :(

Transferred to DVD Burning.

Have you previously successfully played a burned DL disc on this standalone player? If not, it may simply be that this particular player doesn't play D/L burned media.
Try playing it on other standalone players...

I also did a DL burn of King Kong, and it played fine. However....... I did a quick trip to videohelp.com, and found my unit, a Panasonic DMR-ES15 should play DLs fine. Not to take anyone elses word, I pulled out my old Panasonic RV31 player, and the disc worked fine. Looks like it's time to take the unit back, and try for an upgrade. Thanks Setarip,

Thanks SetaripSorry to hear your player isn't functioning properly - but glad to hear that my suggestion helped you identify the source of the problem ;>}

VWRacer - No offense, but you left out some important info that might have been helpful with your problem. You really should know better as you're not some newbie who thinks if he says more than 2 sentences he's talked too much and no one will help him. It would have been nice to have known:
1) What software you were using to burn the DVD because it DOES make a difference.
2) Whether you were burning to +R or -R DL discs because it DOES make a difference.
The only thing I've seen that can correctly burn -R DL discs is ImgBurn and even that requires you to manually set the layer break value or the disc will have problems when playing it back.
I've burned to both +R and -R DL Verbatim discs and I won't touch the -R DL any more. Too troublesome to burn and even when done correctly, my standalone player hates them.

I did state that I ripped it with ripit4me, to an ISO. I did the burn with Decrypter. That does seem to be the default burner for the ISO ripit4me created.
I did fail to state the Verbatim DL was +R. I also won't burn with -R, whether it's DL or SL. Stricktly Verbatim for DL, and the same with Taiyo Yuden for the +R SLs.
Apologies for the omissions,

RipIt4Me has no "default burner" - it has no burner at all. You have set up the association for ISOs to be DVD Decrypter. A better idea is to change it to ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com). Also, please post a burn log, this will help nail down the problem.

OK. I clicked on the .mds file of the ISO, and it brought up DVD Decrypter. I do have Nero 6 installed, and maybe decrypter just linked to it At any rate, my set top Panasonic DVR wouldn't play it, but my playback unit played it just fine. According to the specs on the DVR, it will play DL-Rs. That may have been the problem, as I used +R Verbatims.
Unfortunately, the burn log is long gone.

It might benefit you to learn more about Windows and computers in general. You're referring to a file association (the last characters of a filename after the period) that tells Windows in which program to open that type of file. DVD Decrypter doesn't "link to" anything.
As jshumate and blutach suggested, use ImgBurn. You can actually open a program, then browse to a file to open instead of clicking on the file and letting Windows decide which program will open it.

Hi.
I hope your problem is solved by now. If not, check the burning speed printed on the cover of your media. I'm saying that because I've had a very similar problem with the same movie (DaVinci). Turns out that I was using Verbatim DVD+R DL 8x recording speed media. I only buy 2.4x media, but two of the 6 discs i bought were 8x and were mixed up with 2.4x media on the store shelf. Regardless of what burning speed I specified within ImgBurn (great program!), I just couldn't backup the disc to either one of those two 8x discs. When I finally noticed the discs were different from those i normally use and tried my regular 2.4x media....... No problem at all.
Maybe that helps you.

In the next release, you will have the ability to set your burn speed in ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com) to Auto, and enter in some MID codes and select a speed for each MID code you use. This will overcome any speed issues.
