View Full Version : Bug at 50% with HC

For making backups of my movie's, I use the following method;
1. Rip with dvd-fab
2. Shrink --> main movie only --> remove all unneccesary subs and audio streams
3. Rebuild the main movie with DVD-Rebuilder and HC-coder.
I have done more than 50movies with excellent results, but there are two movies which just won't work (LOTR return of the king disc 2 and HP3)
When rebuilder is close to 50%, the part which it is rebuilding at that moment gives an error in HC-coder. So HC closes, and rebuilder continues. With as a result that I miss a few minutes in the middle of the movie. Very, very strange...
I tried to rip with other programs, and using alternatives for shrink. But nothing worked. So therefore they advised me at the Dutch forum to go here ;) They tought that HC was having a problem with the layer break. Quite strange than that it only had this problem with these two movies
I use HC v.0.18 and DVD-Rebuilder V.0.97
Do you know what the problem is and how to solve it?

Welcome to doom 9.
Why use shrink if DVD Rebuilder (http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/) can remove streams?
And DVDFab is not as compliant as RipIt4Me (http://www.ripit4me.org/)
Rebuilder free version is now 0.98.1 and HC is 0.91.1

Welcome to doom 9.

I may be missing something I should be doing. Why use DVDShrink at all? RB does it all for me. Being a newby, maybe I am not seeing something that I should be.
When would it be necessary to use DVDShrink in conjunction with RB?

You've missed that isaja is working with the free version of RB where there is no mode like "movie only". ;)

1. You may want to remove the "Shrink" step and see if that fixes it.
2. There have been bugfixes to HC since v0.18. Have you tried v0.19.1? There have also been bugfixes to DVD-RB. You may want to upgrade to v0.98.1.
3. There's one other possibility I can think of also. The DGDECODE version (v110) included with freeware DVD-RB may be the cause. There was a bug in that version that happened very, very rarely. Later versions had a bugfix -- but the amount of work involved in adding support (combined with the rarity of the problem) for the newer DGDECODE versions prohibited its update in the freeware version. It's so rare, though, I'd definitely try options 1 and 2 above first.
About all I could suggest for that DVD if case 3 above applies (if DGDECODE were the cause) would be an upgrade to the Professional Edition. Sorry.

Yeah, missed that. Thank you. :o

Thank you all very much for the replies!
The reason why I use dvd-shrink in combination with RB is that it is really easy to only keep the right sub while it gives it not as a number but as a language, and I use it to remove the credits when a movie gets to big. I also like to see how much % compression is needed. And I can set streams as a default. Yes, I use the freeware version... ;)
I have just installed the latest version of RB and HC. The problem I encounter now is how to use the new HC version in rebuilder. I just removed all HC files from the rebuilder encoder folder, and extracted the zip file of the new HC to this path. Obviously, this didn't worked. So this is probably a very basic question, but how to update HC in a way that rebuilder can use it??
Hope that this will solve the problem Jdobbs, otherwise I will seriously have to concern to updating to the pro version (I was already planning to do that, so....;))

I recommend you just use the DVD-RB Installer. It will save you lots of headaches and everything will be where it is supposed to be.

I did this indead, and now it seems rebuilder knows what the problem is;

I guess this is a problem created by shrink, while shrink could read the input. Is there any way to solve this?
Next time maybe better to rip in main movie only modus.

That means that the encoder is failing. You may want to check and ensure the SETUP path is correct.

@isaja
You wrote in another thread that you're encoding with CCE 2.67 Trial but you missed to say, whether this is the Basic or the SP version.
If SP and your version is <= 2.67.00.27 you probably need a tool called EclCCE (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=46664).
Here's the how-to:
1. Download EclCCE and unzip it into the same folder where CCE 2.67 is stored.
2. Run EclCCE.exe and point to cctspt.exe => EXIT
3. Open Rebuilder => Options => Setup => Set Path to CCE SP (new) to EclCCE.exe => OK
4. In RB => Options => CCE Options => tick CCE SP (not Trial, as this one is for 2.70)
5. Rerun RB (including Prepare, if you're not in 1-Click-Mode)
@jdobbs
I'm unsure about point 4, I've spend nearly an hour now to check this. I've tested both cases CCE SP and CCE SP (Trial). Both are working, but if I remember correctly Cinema Craft had changed something in ecl with 2.70. :confused:
Cu Rippraff
Edit: By the way, isaja, there's a newer version 0.98.1 (http://www.jdobbs.com/Pages/Downloads.htm) ;)
Edit2: Oh man, what a nonsense! :o
I mistake isaja for ribeirof (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=901309#post901309) :o :o :o

you probably need a tool called EclCCE.:o I don't know why I didn't think of that... that's very probably the problem.
I'm unsure about point 4, I've spend nearly an hour now to check this...I think it will work either way because ECLCCE reads the ECL file... but, it's been a while since I've used 2.67 and ECLCCE. I think I always selected the "Trial".

@Ripraff,
Thank you for your time, but I am Isaja haha;) And I am still using HC, so I gues your explanation won't fit.
@Jdobbs
As I said I am using HC instead of cce, and in the options there is no setup path to HC. I also reinstalled it to version 0.98, which didn't help. And in version 0.98.1 I can't use HC (I just run the instal from the zip -->Skins updated) I gues this is the wrong method.
But what should be the problem then?

Thank you for your time, but I am Isaja haha;)
The laugh is always on the loser, I know. ;)
And in version 0.98.1 I can't use HC
I doubt this, but it's true that there isn't a setup entry for HC.
The work around:
Open your Rebuilder.ini (in RB program folder) and paste this line under [PATHS]:
HC=D:\Programme\HC Encoder\HCenc_019.exe Of course you need to adjust to your folder. ;)

I have been watching the whole process closely, and this is what I've seen
http://img452.imageshack.us/img452/958/avisynthyg2.png
it can't find avisynth.... :o I really thougt this was installed automatically with RB, but not:(
So when it can find avisynth it will work I gues (I already changed the .ini, it now works with the latest version of HC)
So question nr.1001 from my side... How/where should I install Avisynth in order for RB to work correctly?

I know you aren't ribeirof :D but same advice (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=901205#post901205).

AVISYNTH is installed with DVD-RB -- but only if it isn't already installed. DVD-RB will not overwrite a version that you've installed for some other reason.

The uninstall of avisynth was not properly done (folder+2.dll files left). So I removed it now and reinstalled RB and this also installed the latest avisynth!
So I am now rebuilding again, (@11%) so we will see if the problem will show up again. If not, I am a happy man:D

In Dutch, but we will all know it I'm affraid....:(
I will instal the newer RB tomorow (just install the .exe from the zip file??), and change the .ini of HC to the latest version also. Maybe that will help.
Edit: it was again @51% of the process

With RB 0.98 and the latest HC version still the bug at 50%.... The problem is really in HC, so I gues that it won't help to try with rb 0.98.1
Really strange what happens, it's just a problem in HC. I don't know it anymore, perhaps try with CCE??
jdobbs

Well, as I said, it may be in DGDECODE v110... if so (it has to do with seeking I think), it will do the same thing in CCE.
