How to verify audio quality?

I have tryied auCDtect to check a flac if it is a real cda rip or is made from mp3 (shameful in this case). The program works outstanding but can not "see" any lossless format as ape, flac, vw... It is anoyng to decompress songs in wav to check them.
Can u tell me about some program to make this verification directly, I mean witch can open any lossless file to check?

you could play it back in an audio player with a spectrogram, and look for "holes" and lowpassing.

i tend to keep the "simple spectrum" visualisation in foobar2000 open when i'm checking over stuff. it's not good for judging suubjective quality (looking at the spectrum can make something appear to sound better or worse when really your brain can't tell), but it's good for identification purposes.

a proper lossless rip will not have any "holes" in the upper bits. anything that's been mp3'd will have a sharp cutoff at 16k, and probably some blocky peaks that go over it. stuff like ex ac3 or ex mpc can be harder to identify, but usually a cutoff that moves up and down with the percussion will give it away.
