Any word on when the quad Xeons or dual processor motherboards for Core 2 Quad will be available?

Read Anandtech (http://anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=2832&p=6) while waiting.

The Quad Xeons are fully compatible with Duo (Woodcrest) 5100 Xeons, save for possibly a bios update on some boards. So any board for them will work. All I know about channel availability is "by the end of the year" though, especially if like the core2, it takes time after initial launch to filter down.

Awesome news. I thought for sure the RAM wasn't going to cut it speed-wise, especially since so many of those existing Xeon boards want to use ECC 2100 or 2700.

A lot of the workstation boards, like Iwill and Tyan, use DDR2 FBDIMM, so 4200/5300. Not amazing, but definitely better, and a lot depends on the Northbridge's speed at striping memory. ECC is all done in the FBDIMM modules now, though some boards also seem to support optional external ECC. (Not too clear on the technical reasons why.)
