I have a problem with WinDVD 5 causing the entire system to crash just after I hit eject or close it out. Everything just freezes until I hit the reset button. I've reinstalled the video drivers and reinstalled WinDVD 5 itself and it still causes the system to crash. Has anyone experienced this or know how to fix this friggin' problem?

AMD 3500+
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
Nvidia 7300 LE w/ 93.71 drivers

Anything else?

I use WinDVD 5 but I don't have any problems. You may need a patch.
Take a look at the japanese site here: http://www.intervideo.co.jp/download/updata/
It seems the only one to still have support for WinDVD 5.

It's not just WinDVD 5. It also crashes when I close out Windows Media Player. I don't see any conflicts in Device Manager. I just replaced the DVD drive with a new one because the other was having the same problem and I couldn't install software from it. It now will let me install software with the new drive.

Problem solved then?

No, the problem is not solved. System crashes whenever I close a dvd player program.

Look for updates for your motherboard chipset.

Hi!

Was there any point in time where closing a DVD player program DIDN'T cause a crash? If so, try performing a "System Restore" back to the last time things were working properly...

Yes, thanks for the advice. As for the previous suggestion, all these problems started when I installed new MB chipset drivers as advised by Asus. It completely hosed my system as Nvidia is known for buggy drivers. I ended up reformatting the main drive and reinstalling Windows XP SP2. So I really can't go back with system restore.
This is really bugging me because I'm getting no errors anywhere, i.e., Memtest 86 v3.2, Device Manager, etc. I can open up the media players and close them just fine, but when I put in a DVD and then close out the player program, the whole screen just freezes. I've been searching the internet and forums and I haven't been able to find any resolution. I'm waiting to hear back from MS and Intervideo.

Yes, I've tried both drivers available for my card and the original drivers for my MB. I can play CD's in the media players, but it's just something about DVD's that make it freeze.

It may have something to do with burning software. Try uninstalling all burning programs you have and cleaning the registry.

Try installing "VLC Player" and see if it presents the same problem...

Yes, the same problem happens with this player also.

try changing the pins on the back of the dvd drive
try all three settings; master / slave and cable select
