Video Editing for n00b?

My friend needs help finding an all-in-one n00b program for:

I'm looking to edit particular shots.

i'm making this video for my school project, and i wanted to sort of cut and paste certain scenes and put them in a specific order.

i also wanted to add text and music to the background, change the speed of the shots as well.

do you know a program that's good?

Can anyone recommend a program that serves this purpose?

There are many; most "consumer-grade" video editing suites are around US$100, and many have downloadable 30-day trials for broadband users.

One that I have used is Ulead's VideoStudio. Ulead is one of the vendors with trial offerings.

There are freeware and opensource tools also, but not an all-in-one Non-Linear Editor and encoding suite, and not geared for newbies.
