Hello everyone,

I remember reading in an old changelog (or docs?) that custom matrices were not used with one-pass vbr mode.

Is this still true, or has this changed with recent versions?

Personaly, I think the quality is quite good with one-pass mode, and I can easily encode a full disc in 40 mins on my athlon x2 but I want to be sure any matrix settings I put in are really used..

Thanks

Custom matrices are still not supported with OPV. Since a custom matrix can effect the output size, for accuracy sake, they are not supported.

I did a lot of tests using OPV with custom matrices. Unfortunately, with a variable matrix selection (based upon bitrate) the sizing prediction was virtually impossible. Almost all of the tests came back too small or too large. So I decided to not allow custom matrices when selecting OPV.

Thanks for the quick reply...
I guess i'll keep using OPV and if I end up with a disc that looks bad, I'll just use HC w/ 2 passes and a custom matrix... it's still pretty fast using the multiple process option.
