Dolby 1.0 -> MP3 suggestions?

I've been snatching up several copies of Hong Kong flicks lately that have Dolby 1.0 AC3 tracks on them. Having all the sound coming out of my center channel is really nasty. So I've been playing around with encoding the AC3 track with LAME with an AZID "stereo" downmix. The results have been ok but I was wondering if anyone else had suggestions in regards to LAME switches. Surely other people have encoded some of these HK martial arts flicks before :p

Are you playing these only on your computer or on a standalone? If you have your DVD player hooked to a digital reciever, you can select "Mono Movie" and it should upmix the mono channel to your speakers nicely.

I'm playing the DVD on a standalone and yeh the upmix to 2 channel stereo on my Sony amp is much better than the Dolby 1.0.

Problem is I still need to encode these to MP3 though. Happy Holidays to you also Taric. BTW- My GF is from Illinois. Cheerz!

If this is a 1.0 AC3 file, then it's mono. Why bother keeping it as Stereo? Use Azid to decode it to a Mono WAV then encode it to a Mono MP3. Feel free to correct me if this is not a valid option.

(Or are you looking for good 'mono' LAME switches?)

I'm sorry RT, I should have maybe been more clear as to my intent. Yes, I'm looking for good LAME mono switches.
