View Full Version : 1 pass instead of 4, why?

I've installed the newest version of DVD-RB and CCE SP Trial Version 2.70.02.00 and I've experienced following problem - even though I've set 4pass VBR while encoding there is only one pass (not even OPV). The only one solve that seems to work correctly is change to VBR mode aid of RB-Optv. After loading REBUILDER.INF into RB-Optv there is OPV mode default. Very strange :( Has someone got the same problem?
Any suggestion?

Hmm... nothing changed in that area at all. Have you recently changed your CCE version? I just ran it with v2.70.2.9 and it is running correctly -- and the ECL file should be exactly the same as v2.70.2.0.
Look in your ECL file and see what value is being set for "video_type=" after running prepare.

Ok :) So. I have got fresh OS and I've forgotten back my rebuilder.ini up befere OS reinstal :(
As far as "video_type=" is concerned currently I've got 4 ecl files:
"item01.ecl" - video_type=16
"item.ecl" - video_type=16
"REBUILDER.ECL.bak" - video_type=4 (it seems to be the one that is normaly before RB-Optv modification, after running prepare, am I right?)
"REBUILDER.ECL.original" - video_type=4
If it isn't clear I'll prepare one more time (without RB-Optv mod) and i'll give You information You need. :)

Run the setup dialog and make sure you are pointing to the correct executable.
For version 2.70 the value should be:
video_type=16
CCE Versions greater than or equal to v 2.67 use a value of 16 to indicate multipass VBR and a value of 4 to indicate OPV.
Older versions (less than v2.67) use a value of 4 to indicate multipass VBR and a value of 2 to indicate OPV. Those is also the values used for AutoQMatEnc.
DVD Rebuilder makes the decision as to which value to use after looking at the version number of the EXE found using the setup path. If "CCENEW=" is empty in the INI file, it will use whatever path it finds in the registry.

Hmmm... it seems that everything is OK as far as the path is concerned. I've found my prior rebuilder.ini (worked well if my memory serves my right (a few months before OS reinstalation) but as I said it does 1 pass only :( I'll try to set my DVD-RB for the very begining. Maybe it'll work.
Yyy and one more thing - I've downloaded CCE SP2 trial and it works perfectly. It does as many passes as I want...
Anyway thanks for Your help jdobbs :)

Post your INI file and I'll check it if you'd like. You also might try deleting the "CCENEW=" path entry and see what DVD-RB finds on its own (from the registry).

That's my rebuilder.ini. I've already deleted "CCENEW=" path, but when I look at my Setup (in DVD-RB) "Path to CCE SP new" indicate at the same executable file as before.
If it is impossible to solve the problem it doesn't matter :) I can use RB-Optv for I use it almost every time when I have to reencode my DVD's :)
:thanks:

Nothing unusual with your ini for me except that it isn't an ini for CCE SP Trial Version 2.70.02.00 but for CCE SP2. ;)

According to your INI file you don't have CCE SP 2.70.2.0 selected. You have CCE SP2 selected under "SETTINGS/CCE SETTINGS".

Hehe...it seems DVD-RB saved my "test" mode :) I tested SP2 trial and as I told, it worked perfectly :)
But ok, no problem. I'll use RB-Optv to set VBR mode for the moment. Thanks guys for Your help.

It sure does. Pity about the big watermark in the bottom right corner. Good for testing tho

Just a question.
Running RB CCE5PASSES WITH FILTER.
vs. RB 1 PASSES WITH OPVPR ANALYSIS WITH FILTERS.
WHICH one should give a better quality?
just curious thanks..
should i RAN more passes with filters or second option thanks

CCE 5 passes is overkill. I think 3 passes is as many as you would ever need.
My personal preference would be 3 passes rather than 1 pass OPV

Run the prepare phase using OPV, and if the Q-value is low enough (i.e. <15), I'd go with OPV. I think it gives excellent video quality in that range.

thanks you..I will try 3passes ..5PASSES took forever 12hrs encode or sometimes 10...anyway
>15 i JUST use 5passes right.. cause dvdsize is 7.5gb
OPV will good with a bigger size or 3passes
