Having trouble stripping with IFOedit

Ok, I'm trying to back up my Saw DVD using this guide:

All I want to do is:
1. Get rid of FBI warnings and studio splash screens
2. Remove the user option prohibitions

I can re-encode the data with DVD shrink or other programs, so I'm not concerned with that. What I don't get is this: what part of the process do you remove the actual warnings screens?

I'll step through the walkthrough:

Step 1: Rip the DVD
Piece of cake, no problems here.

Step 2: Analyze the structure of the DVD
I know that the pieces I want to remove are titles 13 through 16, which are contained in VTS 5 and VTS 6.

Step 3: Strip out unused menus
The DVD does not have menus in any language other then english, so there are no menus to remove from vts_01_0.ifo However, in trying to follow the guide exactly, I went through this step anyway, as it gives you the chance to "strip the VOB IDs" from titles 13-16. Is this what removes the warnings? It doesn't seem to work no matter how I do it.

The next part of this step is to strip VobID 1 from video_ts.ifo This seems to work.

Step 4: Strip out unwanted audio tracks and subtitle streams
This seams pretty straight forward.

Ok, so I guess the question is, how do I remove titles 13-16?
I guess I don't understand what step that is happening in.

Welcome to doom9 Dr.Khron

If they totally comprise VTS 5 and 6, just do a blanking in PgcEdit (Ctrl-Del) or, if not, use VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm) to selectively blank the titles.

Ah, I see, blanking the VOBs allows you to remove those parts without altering the menu structure... Brilliant.

However, I want to be able to do it as detailed in the IFOedit guide. Its a great tool, so I want to learn how to use it correctly. And it drives me nuts when I can't follow a guide properly. Anyone else?

That guide is obsolete (last updated 2002!). Each to his own, I guess, and indeed, knowing IfoEdit (http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/) can teach you quite bit.

To strip the VOBIDs from those titles, you would use VOB Extras, and de-select the VOBIDs that pertained to those titles (taking care those VOBIDs were not used in other titles in the VOB). The rest is copying the result back into your project folder and doing a GetVTSSectors.

This is partialy true. If you blank something what is accessible via menu, e.g. some extras or trailers, your dvd will raise a error message ... I think. so it's a good thing to repair dvd structure via pcgedit or at least hide buttons in pcgedit so no action will be peroformed.

With the option to kill playback, blanking should be always safe (except in some rare cases, when a Link in the pre-commands points somewhere inside the PGC, and there are cell commands to bypass the post-commands.)
As the playback is never performed, the navigation continue normally with whatever was programmed in the original post-commands. Usually, the nav returns to the menu, and therefore it's almost the same thing that disabling the menu button. But I prefer to hide the menu button anyway, as it is obvious for the user that the feature has been removed.

On the other hand, blanking without kill playback has not exactly the same effect, as the PGC will be played, even if it's a very short "clip". In this case, it is always better to hide the menu button, as some players have problems playing a tiny cell alone. (I'm still wondering why!)

Well, IFOEdit will have to wait for now... I've found the following three step process to be efficient and easy:
1. DVD Decrypter: decrypt to HD
2. VobBlanker: blank out annoying crap
3. DVD Shrink: to strip out unwanted audio streams, rencode to smaller target size, and to rebuild into ISO file for burning.

You can strip audio (and subs) with VobBlanker too, I prefer it over shrinks stripper (heh). Especially when stripping and blanking unwanted stuff results in untouched video.

After that, PGCedit + IMGburn is my personal choice for editing + creating ISO.

I know you can use a project file to redo it, but just musing that this could be implemented.
