hardware accelaration on 2nd display

hola,

I have some kind of a problem with my PowerDVD Player respectively the CyberLink Video/SP DS Decoder and displaying video (DVD) on my secondary display (TV).

PowerDVD (CyberLink's Video/SP DS Decoder) offers the ability to turn on hardware accelaration. HW accelerated video does only work for the primary display...

I can't use hardware accelerated video if this feature is turned on and DVD video is moved to the secondary display (either via PowerDVD directly or via MPC using Cyberlinks DS Filter) - that's logical because it is the same DS filter. If you move the player over to the 2nd screen you still get audio, but the video freezes/ remains black/blank.

It seems that OpenGL acceleration doesn't really work for both displays at the same time. Does someone know who it could be done? I mean that it somehow recognizes the displays... like, oh the player is switched over to the second display, now "I (the player/ DS filter) use HW acceleration for that one" and if switched back to the primary display it turns off HW acceleration for the 2nd display and use it again for the 1st one...

Looks like you're running Vista there.

It's not officially released yet so I wouldnt be surprised if it's just a silly driver bug at this point.

Why do you even need MPEG-2 acceleration anyway? :)

no, it is not vista - still xp with vista icons :)

and if it is a driver bug, well I guess I should contact the ATI/AMD crew because this problem persist since ati driver version...? I'm now using v6.10 and from 6.9 to 6.10 nothing changed.

about acceleration, well I dunno - i thought accelerated things can't be that bad :D

but it is nothing I can't live without it, it was more or less a matter of "I want get it to work" not "I need it for watching my videos"...

I wouldn't worry about it. Decoding SD MPEG-2 is such a lightweight task for today's CPUs, I would be surprised if your CPU usage is over 20-25%. Hardware acceleration can bring it down to - 10%, but who cares :D

Still, with an old Pentium2 you can actually watch DVDs if you have hardware acceleration! That's the only really important use for it.

Hmm when i remember correctly from my older ATI experience you can set the Overlay for the 2nd Display via the Catalyst Controll Center i think. And to my knowledge automatic detection isn't implemented yet so you can just define one display where you wan't to use the Overlay :)
