Ok, this is driving me batty.
I just replaced my pc with a new notebook, and on video playback I'm noticing a weird tearing problem whenever there's fast vertical motion. There'll be one or two horizontal lines in the video showing a tear in the image.
My notebook (pertinent details):
1280x800 (16:10) LCD @ 60Hz
Geforce 7600 512mb gfx
My software settings:
XP Home edition
current Gordian Knot codec pack (sans huffyuv or divx3 installs)
VLC player (current version)
Winamp (current version)
Media Player Classic (current version)
All 3 programs generate the video tearing behavior, with different video sources (dvd, h264, wmv). I don't think it's an interlacing problem since the DVD IS interlaced while the h264 encode's progressive)
I had thought it might be related to vsync (tearing effects happen when the video buffer isn't in sync with the monitor) but I've tried enabling it in the nvidia driver & winamp but it doesn't affect the behavior.
I even considered that this might be an effect or behavior of LCD screens, but that doesn't seem to be the case. My old PC was connected to a Sanyo Z2 1280x720 projector (dvi-a cable) and I never noticed this tearing effect on it.
Thoughts, gentlemen?
