View Full Version : WME9 fails to continue after first pass...

With the new Xbox 360 dashboard supporting streaming of WMV files, I decided to try converting some of my current files to WMV format with bad results so far. I've been using XviD files, with relatively default WME9 settings, and after the first pass completes the program just sits there. There's a 6KB file in place of the final file, the program keeps counting the time it's taking, the time remaining ever so slowly creeps up along with it, and it never finishes.

Any clue what could be causing this?

Which decoder are you using for XviD?

Not sure on the decoder. I believe I'm using whatever's in the most recent version of the XP codec pack.

One of the files I tried to convert was one I encoded myself for my Zen Vision: M, so no AC3. The other was not done by me, but is also encoded in MP3 instead of AC3.

XP codec pack? Can you point us to a web download address?

it's this $hit: http://www.xpcodecpack.com/ and it has nothing to do with MS codecs.
as usual... DO NOT USE CODEC PACKS! they're EVIL!

I thought you were referring to what XviD codec I was using, since you said decoder, not encoder. I've used both the standard WME codec that it defaults to as well as several WMV9 codec choices, with the same results.

I did ask about the Xvid DEcoder. Like Sharktooth said, codec packs of the "all in one" variety are terrible and are likely the cause of your WME problem too.

As noted, after you asked the question it dawned on me that I may not be fully up-to-date and went ahead and directly downloaded the latest XviD codec, installed it, and nothing changed. Problem's still occuring.

Have you uninstalled XP codec pack though?

As a workaround, you can CBR for Audio.
