Imported motion menu exceeds DVD size - best way to shorten?

With r0lz's help I've managed to import only that original episode selection menu of my episodic disc reauthored with Shrink that I'm interested in. Usually it's only 1 picture with 4 buttons on it which is very small so that I can use DVD Shrink's default setting when ripping the DVD and still import it with PgcEdit afterwards.

But as I've realized only after having encoded the eps with DVD Shrink the episode selection menu of my current disc set is a motion menu that runs for about 30+ seconds and is roughly 20 MB which when imported into my re-authored DVD adds up to 4595680 KB thereby exceeding the maximum size of a single layer blank DVD-R.

How can I shorten the motion menu (keeping buttons and overlays) so that I do not have to encode the whole DVD with Shrink again on a smaller custom target size? TIA.

Maybe try jeanl's MenuShrink or the Motion2Still funktion of VobBlanker.

I don't understand that. Personally, I have yet to see a motion menu that can't be stilled. Anyway, you could always extract it, reencode it to fit, reauthor it, and then stick it back into the DVD. Perhaps you can adapt goonix's instructions here to your needs:

I'm a little confused about this myself. I have an original menu that does show up in PgcEdit as having only one cell, i.e. only one language. When I open it in MenuShrink I suddenly see more than one cell, it's 3 languages! I'm selecting a certain frame that I wanna keep as the menu background but after saving it to HD and watching it I see that a different frame than the one selected was left and all other frames deleted.

I think MenuShrink shrinks all cells it finds in the VOB file. If you have blanked some PGCs or cells with PgcEdit and then launch MenuShrink, it will still find the original cells in the VOB, and will process them. To avoid that, run the menu VOB through FixVTS to remove the unreferenced cells before using MenuShrink.

Don't forget also that it's a bad habit of many commercial authoring programs to duplicate the same VOB cell several times, when the same cell could be used in several PGCs. For this reason, you can also see several times the same cell during the MenuShrink process. You have to select the same frame in all cells to be sure of the result.

I have been able to reproduce a small bug in MenuShrink (http://jean.laroche.free.fr/MenuShrink/) which affect highlights displaying when there are more than one set of buttons in a cell.

But this does not sound like Chetwood's issue. The authoring sounds like a PGC has been authored in 3 languages, which is not uncommon. However, the nav will only let you see the one based on your Preferred Menu Language.
