out of curiosity I stopped by uManiacs Xvid binary site... it does still exist :)

it was one of my sources downloading binaries - and if you like old alphas (even smp one's!) take a journey into time...

Nic and Koepi get excited about the fact how xvid achieved that kind of success (the bandwith usage of their websites increased dramatically)

finally to the thread topic - I'd love to dig in the past and was looking for the first post ever mentioned xvid here at doom9. I've typed "xvid" in the search box and 20 pages were the result but even jumping to the last page, only shows threads dated 2006...

how would you finetune the search to find the very first post where xvid ever was mentioned??

It seems that asking for old posts in the Find posts from section will get you the 500 oldest post instead of the 500 newest (it's probably a feature, not a bug).

thanks, but the search results weren't really the ones I was looking for... but on the other hand I have found old news by uManiac (http://umaniac.leffe.dnsalias.com/oldnews.html)... scroll down and start reading, it's nice to dig in the past - it's like a tiny diary :)

Naaww, I couldn't do that, there are too many memories and it's really getting close to the five-years celebration even though I haven't heard from him for quite some time.

Those were the days... If it hadn't been for Koepi my server would have been the only xvid-binarysource. THE only one. (My precious anyone? ;) )

Things have really changed in the +5 years I've been around and I'm glad that the changes have been for the better to all of us.

I put it on my webpage when xvid.org was still there (about a year ago i guess). I very much regret not having copied that post :(
