Greenish block artefacts with Cinepak codes

I again have an annoying problem that I have encountered several times when reading Cinepak encoded clips. (Lots of older material seems to be coded with Cinepak to garantuee compatibility.):

The video is flipped vertically and contains greenish block artefacts. The workaround for the vertical flip is easy, using the according AVS function. But the only way I could get rid of the block artefacts was to save the video uncompressed in a first run and then read it again and then do the processing I intended.

I already heard of the same problem in regard to Cinepak encoded videos by others and this happens on both of my computers (one running on Win98, the other on Win XP). So it seems to be a systematic error.

Any ideas on this?

Are you using ffdshow's Cinepak, or the original decoder? If ffdshow's, you might want to switch it off (or on if not) just to test. The files may simply be corrupt, though, or incorrectly decoding to a non-rgb colorspace.
