watching video without codec/is there a media player with internal codecs

Im working as a cashier in a parking garage and every month we rotate garages. Normally just about every codec needed has already been installed, but for some reason it hasn't on this computer. Unfortunetly this garage also only gets 3-5 customers on my entire 8 hour shift so I usually bring in some movies downloaded at home.

I've notified the IT department but got a "We will loo into the matter" which at my job usually means they deem it not important enough to care or do anything about.

So currently I'm trying to find a way of watching videos encoded in Xvid though sometimes other encodings are used. I am unable to install anything so I can't use the .exe from the xvid site.

1. Is is possible to do it manually with just placing some file in some folder. I don't really know alot about how codecs work so I don't know if this is possible. If not is there some way of doing it on XP pro user account level.

2. Is there a media player that doesn't require installition(for example I can download and use Media Player because it just runs without installing anything) that uses internal codecs to play. I don't know if such a thing exists or if it is possible but this option also came to mind.

mplayer or VLC. mplayer is probably the easiest since it is basically just a single exe. Could also use Media Player Classic together with xvid.ax/xvidcore loaded directly.
