The Setup:

Source was American Dreamz R1 ripped via DVDFab Decrypter v3.0.3.0 with all Remove options enabled except for "Remove APS" and "Remove layer break".
No preprocessing was performed.

The Anomaly:

DVD-RB v1.11.0 threw this dialog during Prepare:

"DVD Rebuilder experienced an error opening AVS. [19:40:10] 00053 00006"

Log error is:

"[19:40:10] 00053 00006 -- error opening AVS.
- PREPARE aborted."

Rip looks pretty clean. Wondering if anyone else has encountered problems with this one?

I will try washing it through VobBlanker or Shrink and see what happens.

Thanks...

Also try FixVTS

Also try FixVTS

Yeah, that was third on my list. Shrink didn't fix it but VobBlanker did...

No preprocessing? That's weird, because I did that disc last week and had no problems at all... This has to be one of those that requires more than just DVD Decrypter to rip.

I'd like to find what's happening there... so I can isolate this error, even it is caused by a bad rip. That error indicates an overflow. Some variable is getting assigned a value that is too large for it.

jdobbs, I used DVDFab Decrypter, not DVD Decrypter.

I had problems with Slither, error 00002 00009 ("...error attempting to read from source"). Again, this was ripped with DVDFab Decrypter. Again, I ran it through VobBlanker and DVD-RB was able to get through the Prepare phase.

Maybe DVDFab Decrypter isn't ripping cleanly? I see that fengtao released a new version a couple days ago as well...

Did you remove anything with VobBlanker?

there seems to have been quite a bit done since 3.0.3.0 so it would be good to try out the newest aswell.

3.0.3.5 (10/30/2006)
- Fix: CSS decryption problem when the region of drive/media
is mismatched in certain cases.
- New: Updated language files.

3.0.3.3 Beta (10/28/2006)
- Fix: Error 400 when copying "Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom".
- Fix: Hopefully fixed DVD Shrink "Invalid Data" problem.
- Fix: Several minor problems.

3.0.3.2 Beta (10/27/2006)
- New: Added support for a new Sony ARccOS protection as found on "Monster House" (US).
- Fix: Error 400 when copying DVD in certain cases.
- Fix: CSS decryption problem intrduced in 3.0.3.0, which will cause DVD Shrink error, or playback jerky.
- Fix: "Reading Error" at end of "Clone" in certain cases.
- Fix: Content lost when copying "Stay Alive" (US).
- New: Updated language files.

I don't like that error message -- I'd rather have DVD-RB catch anomalies and correct them where possible rather than kick out a message and end. I'll rip that disc using DVDFab 3.0.3.0 so I can see what might be causing it. Any settings I should be aware of? If you post your INI file I could make sure I run it with the same settings as you.

Well I ripped American Dreamz R1 to hard drive with DVDFab Decrypter v3.0.3.0 (freeware version). I then ran DVD-RB v1.11.0 against it. The PREPARE finished without any issues. I have to assume you had a bad rip (possibly a smudge on the disc?).

Here's the log:

Criminy, on 10/28/2006, the download page had DVDFab Decrypter v3.0.3.0!

Anyways, I think jdobbs might be right about the rip. I burned the DVD-RB output to a disc and played it -- there was a cut at 30:25 during the movie. So, I went back to the computer and played the rip in PowerDVD and it played fine, but when I rewound past that point, PowerDVD threw a Dr. Watson -- this was 100% reproducible.

On the computer, the DVD-RB output exhibited the same cut in PowerDVD -- I'm guessing there was something abnormal at that point in the source and DVD-RB removed it.

Probably why it wouldn't process it raw either without me washing it through VobBlanker...
