Splitting and Joining Video Formats

Looking for a Linux application for splitting and/or joining videos. Have attempted to install various apps under wine, but always have problems with certain dll's missing. Besides I prefer working in Linux.
FYI: I run Fedora Core 6 x86_64.

i would also like to know this as i used ffmpeg to create dvd compliant mpeg2 streams but i cant find anyting that can cut them.

Try Avidemux first. ProjectX can also be used to cut MPEG-PS files even though it is mainly intended for demuxing DVB captures in various formats. There are likely a lot of other tools available for editing video stored in MPEG formats, if you look around. Cinelerra comes to mind as a sledgehammer solution.
