Really thinking of getting one of these to run MeGUI/x264. I currently have a P4 @ 3.0ghz w/HT and I run about 7-8fps when encoding using RDO motion detection during 2nd-pass.. Anyone here that has a Conroe and runs MeGUI? What is your fps encoding like?

Well, I don't know exactly about the multi-threading capabilities of X264, but the Core2Duo @ 1,86GHz is about 30% faster than a Pentium D @ 3Ghz.
Now, how do the Pentium D compare to your proc? I would say, it should be around 50% faster than yours.
So the bottom line is:
A Core2Duo running at 1,86GHz should be twice as fast as a P4HT@3GHz.

I am putting together a Conroe system pretty soon, with in the next 2 weeks, and I will post tests all over the forum if you want to wait a little while.

Hopefully I'll be picking up one soon as well. I've got to sell some of my current PC to get the funds though, so here is hoping.
Actually, wouldn't a PentiumD be at least 2x faster than a P4? I mean a PentiumD with 2 cores running a multi-threaded app should produce nearly 200% that of a standard P4 at the same Ghz (ideally of course).

reality is not "ideal" and i wish people would stop expecting it to be or complaining(not you Dayvon) when its not. this expectation of any sort of exacting speed increase by adding another cpu/core just shows how little people understand how programs work. for a little more explanation please read my post in this thread
