There was loads of hype at the beginning of the year about dual layer rewritable DVD’s however nothing has materialised.
Has the idea of dual layer rewritable’s died? Does anyone know the reason for the delay or when we are likely to see some drives / media?

The most obvious hang-up for rewritable DL is that it's incompatible with the installed base of devices. This is due to optical signal levels lower than prerecorded media that will require hardware and firmware to be adjusted to accommodate the differences. Analogous to CD-RW's introduction in 1996, neither existing DVD recorders nor DVD players will be able to write or read rewritable DLs.Source: EMedia (http://www.emedialive.com/Articles/ReadArticle.aspx?CategoryID=46&ArticleID=9913)
The presented specifications for DVD-RW DL show however a reflectivity of only 5-10 % which is way below the 18-30 % required for matching the DVD-ROM DL specifications.Source: CD Freaks
