You can't ask what is 'best'... it's too subjective a question and against forum rules.

Personally, I use MVConv () with search = 3, and searchparam = 8. Very slow, but very good quality.

Hmm... I would not do that. I may deinterlace it to 29.97p but I won't convert it to 23.976p, I don't see any reason why I should!

He may want to create a filmic effect, a la Magic Bullet... which is fair enough... I'm a uni student in final year shooting on DV. The production is being deinterlaced and graded with Magic Bullet and it looks far better than the others who are just shooting video as video. It's a good way to add production value to a cheap film, assuming the motion detection doesn't get tricked...

I find all this "fake film effect" highly irritating.

To be fair, the _very_ best attempts are OK. They do look like film (though I'd rather watch video).

However, the typical junk we see in the UK is obviously video, shot as video, lit as video, and then put through some nasty effect which makes it look like, well, video with weird colours and stuttery motion. Or soft colours and blurred motion.

Mind you, if it's now taught in media school, it explains why we see so much of this on TV. :(
