View Full Version : Nero Recode: No video in mp4?

I have a DVD I'm trying to encode into MPEG4. The Recode menu says the resulting file should be a little less than 2 gig in size with AVC. When I encode, I get a 121MB file that has the audio of the DVD only. Something is obviously wrong with the file. Only Nero's player will play the audio. PowerDVD and J. River Media Center lock up.
Is my system missing something? Or has something it shouldn't? I have re-installed Nero through the various updates in the past year. I can't get Recode to produce an mp4 video.

In some systems the ds-filterchain seems to get broken more easily than in others. Try avoiding at least screen resolution changes during the encoding.

Hello Juha. Thanks for replying.
I did not switch resolutions while encoding. I was browsing (Firefox), reading email (Thunderbird), and working in a VM (VMware). Recode did successfully backup a DVD (DVD9 to DVD5).
Here are some other applications on my system.
AviSynth
DivX 6.4
AC3Filter
ffdshow
x264
Gabest mp4 splitter
Xvid
Would any of those cause a conflict or problem?

Can't say for sure but did you for example switch to full screen mode in VMware?

I keep my VM Workstation window maximized, but not full screen or in Quick Switch full screen. I should clarify that when I'm working in a VM, it's with some development tools, not Nero. Nero runs on the host OS, XP SP2.
I can't remember if I have tried this, but does it matter if Recode is running on a secondary monitor or minimized? If I run Record on the primary desktop and walk away and don't come back till it's done, I should have a good encode. Right? Is there any information the Nero Info Tool can give that would help troubleshoot this?
