Hmmm... it seems to think that no reencoding is required and just extracts the original video.

I noticed there's a fairly lengthy break between the ENCODE and the REBUILD phase.

My guess is that you may have inadvertently changed the audio selections -- making it bigger during REBUILD than was expected during PREPARE. It's also very odd that the REBUILD would take that long. Normally it is about 15-20 minutes.

Hi

The break could be due to the fact that I didn't use "one-click" and was away from the computer.

And I did not fiddle with the sound selections. But I ran it again with one-click activated with the same results. It’s still too big.

What did you rip it with? There have been new versions of almost all rippers just to deal with this disc.

I recently ran into a title that resulted in an oversize(4.55gb) in movie only mode. In this case there turned out to be a large mount of unreferenced mat. (1100 mb) in the same vts as the main movie (Inherit the wind ntsc)
The movie w/ all audio and subs was actually 6,664mb, 128 min.
going straight from rip to rb movie only showed 7,764mb
orig. prep
[18:49:17] Phase I, PREPARATION started.
- DVD-RB v1.11.0
- AVISYNTH 2.5.5.0
- CCE 2.70.2.6 encoder selected.
- "Adaptive Quantizer Matrices" is enabled.
- "Movie Only" mode is enabled.
- VTS_01: 3,975,705 sectors.
-- Scanning and writing .D2V & .AVS files

- Reduction Level for DVD-5: 64.3%
- Overall Bitrate : 4,503/3,602Kbs
- Space for Video : 4,004,782KB
- HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 4,866/3,148/3,602 Kbs
[18:57:07] Phase I, PREPARATION completed in 8 minutes.
the sectors ,frames #'s would indicate the extra 1100mb and the space for video seems a little high
after a mock strip in vobblanker

now the sectors, frames, space for video seem right
back to orig. rip using rb in movie only dvd9 size then using that output in rb dvd5 size

same as the vb and when encoded produced proper size as usual So while it seems that rb removed the unref. mat. movie only no encoding i can't tell what it did straight off the bat other than there was an oversize which I'm assuming was due to the unref. mat in the same vts

note : % of reduction lower in prep 1 even though sectors, frames higher

@Jack'n'xBox

Hi!
Try ripping your "Monster House" DVD (and other new DVD releases) using the easy to use "RipIt4me" package. You can download this excellent freeware from:

www.ripit4me.org

While you're at that site, read the excellent "how to" tutorial...

...main movie (Inherit the wind ntsc)...Just as an OT side comment -- is that a great movie, or what? I just watched it again recently. Spencer Tracy is a true actor's actor.

yes it's NTSC.

Odd.

Well I just did Monster House in "Movie Only" mode and it did the same thing for me. But it's confusing right now as to why. I went back through and recalculated the output figures and it should add up to only be 4.04GB... but it's coming out 4.39GB.

As soon as I figure out what's happening I'll let you know.

Ok. It took most of the day to track it down, but I've fixed this problem. It is caused by a miscalculation in the target sizing when unreferenced cells exist. It only affects Movie-Only mode and only happens if the unreferenced sectors are in the same VTS as the PGC that represents the feature.

The fix will be in the next release.
