I use those under wine, but I gess mplayer with mkfifo does something similar than dgindex. mkisofs is equivalent to imgtools

if using them under wine are the files (vobs) in a windows recognizable partition or a linux-native partition?

Either one as long as they are mounted in Linux. Wine is a native Linux program that provides a Windows-like environment for running Windows programs. It doesn't need any Windows partitions to work.
