View Full Version : MP4MenuGUI
IMOON

I have tried to write a simple GUI, witch make it easier to create dvd-like menus in a mp4 file.
Download the latest build (https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=180851)
Required tools:
Microsoft .NET Runtime 2.0 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en)
Avisynth 2.57 (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/SupportUtils/Avisynth_257.exe) for video preview
MediaInfo.dll (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=86862)
The GUI can create a bt script witch is similar to bonds mp4menu script, thank you for your great work bond.
The program has some elements from MeGUI, like the video preview, also a great thanks to all developers of MeGUI.
A small guide
You must encode the menus with x264 or an other mpeg4 encoder before you can start using the gui (detailed instructions will follow).
the following formats are supported as input:
video: in avi and mp4, alternative you can use an image (jpg) as "video" input.
audio: mp3, mp3 in avi, aac in mp4
subtitle: srt(text file)
chapterfile: ogg file format
Now you can start MP4MenuGui. First specify all movie inputs. If you use mp4 files as input you must specify witch track you want to use. You can use Yamb to find out witch is the right. If you use anamorphic encoding you have to correct the world size to the display size of the movie video (later it should be calculate automatic). You can use the build-in Chapter Creator to change the chapter file. You have to save your changes before you exit it.
config the Menus
What is the difference between menuinput and menu?
A menuinput is a video or image file. A video input can contains more than one menu, so a menu is a part of a input, with a start and end frame.
Before you start to configure the buttons I recommend that you create all necessary inputs and menus, so that you can link to these menus. To create a new button select a button type (rectangle or ellipse) by clicking on the icon. Now click and hold the left mouse button somewhere in the preview window and draw the button.
In the menu option window you can place the buttons and specify the actions. If the video is anamorphic you have to correct the DAR.
create the script and the mp4 file
To create a bt script click "Save as BT" and select the output file. You need a compiler/encoder like the mp4box (http://kurtnoise.free.fr/index.php?dir=mp4tools/)to convert the script into binary format in mp4. Execute the following command line:
"c:\path to\mp4box.exe" -mp4 "c:\path to\output.bt"
Playback
For playback those files you need a mpeg-4 systems 2D player.
the best currently free available is the Osmo4 from GPAC (http://gpac.sourceforge.net/)!
TODO:
- write a better guide :D
- set language and track name (improving the process)
- make the menus selfrepeating
Maybe it would be useful for some of you.

Also to load a preview is quite long because it use Avisynth.

hello Hyper Shinchan,
sorry for my late response.
if you don't have a error message try the new release. There should be a error message if open an input fails. Maybe we find then the bug.
new in this release is only the possibility to use intros for the menus (not tested yet, outros follow).

btw some sort of compatibility mode with enviviotv would be nice, cause than we could play the files with menus in any directshowplayer, quicktime and realplayer (enviviotv doesnt support avc tough)

generally i can say that obviously everything included in profile2 is handled by enviviotv. the more advanced stuff might not work (i think it was the intros and outros for example...)

IMOON your tool is really great :)
i think its very straight forward and easy to use, especially the button setting!
still i had some issues:
- the buttons werent clickable in osmo4 :(
- segmentDescriptor is only written when setting two menus for the menuvideo input. if only specifying one menusegment there is no segmentdescriptor written (of course it doesnt make sense to have a menuvideo input thats bigger than the needed menu itself)
- how to change the trackid of a .mp4 input file in mp4menugui?
- the attached chapter file causes the following error:
System.NullReferenceException: Der Objektverweis wurde nicht auf eine Objektinstanz festgelegt.
bei MP4MenuGui.ProjectUtil.GetTimeCodeDuration(String timecode1, String timecode2)
bei MP4MenuGui.ProjectUtil.ExportAsBt(Project project, String path, String& error)

than it must be an configuration error on your system, I think. So I will offer a mediainfo free solution for the future releases.

have you specified the "Link To" field. If so maybe you can post your bt.

In the sample bond posted the dimension(pixelWidth/pixelHeight) of the scene is set to zero.
It seems that TextAppearance isn't used. Also there are no subtitle so there should no need for an AnimationStream.
There still could be other problems, if I find a nice video source I will try MP4MenuGUI too, and will do an deeper look at the created BIFStext.
To bad MP4MenuGUI doesn't run at Linux.
Will subtitle included as BIFS stream (text node) or streaming text stream(aka 3gp timed text) into the scene?
It would be nice to allow more than two audio streams.
For Audio input from AVI and subs it would be nice to be able to set the language.
You can do it this way :
ObjectDescriptor {
objectDescriptorID 20
esDescr [
ES_Descriptor {
ES_ID 4
OCR_ES_ID 1
muxInfo MuxInfo {
fileName "german.aac"
}
langDescr LanguageDescriptor {
languageCode "ger" #set languge in ISO 639-2
}
}
]
}

IMOON

thx, what is the purpose of mediainfo?
mediainfo reads out the dimensions and the playtime of the video and if there is an video/audio track.
yeah i tried this, but it doesnt seem to let me set ids like "201", propably it only allows one digit ids?
yeah I think that was probably a stupid restriction. I will fix this.
i realised what caused the button to not be clickable. it was placed on a wrong place!
It was an bug of "your" version, the menuinput/world has the dimension 0x0 so the positions was calculatet wrong. And you have to correct the world size in the project settings ("File/Project Settings") to the correct value.
In this version you can choose if you want to use mediainfo or not (under "Tools/Standard Settings")
Because I need some information of the video I use AviSyth, if mediainfo disabled, to get them and for long video it takes a lot of time. So be warned;) . Maybe I will find an other solution.
Now it use a segmentDescriptor for every input.

Good question, I have some DVD which comes with about six audio language. ;)
Is there also a way to define the track name.
As far as I know there is no way to set the handler name.
May be you can ask Jean Le Feuvre to add this feature to MuxInfo http://gpac.sourceforge.net/doc_bt.php .
For the handler name you will find this in 14496-12:
name is a null-terminated string in UTF-8 characters which gives a human-readable name for the track type (for debugging and inspection purposes).
So I would say it wasn't created for the purpose it is used today from some splitters.

fantastic! i now tried everything (including switching subs (they are done as bifs text), switching audio, chapters, chaptermenu, languagemenu, subtitlemenu, small extra menu) but excluding intros/outros and everything worked fine in latest osmo4 :)
actually i think using you gui is damn easy!
to see the result try a sample yourself:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TNU8SN6Z
note that its obviously not the full movie, therefore only chapters 1-3 should work (meaning should seek in the movie)
try latest osmo4 from here:
http://home.wildit.net.au/celticdruid/mirror/gpac/dev/
note that when playing the sample in a normal directshow player with haali the normal movie is played
next i will try intros/outros :D
IMOON:
- is it possible to make the menus selfrepeating, like in my old sample?
- dunno if its easily doable, but when copying buttons it would be great if mp4menugui would remember that the buttons have been copied before and eg call them "buttonname_copy1", "buttonname_copy2" aso... that way people wouldnt need to rename every button when its copied more than once (very likely imho with chaptermenus)
- also the option to keep the link action value when copying buttons might be useable (depends on the structure of the menu of course, eg if there are more 100% identical buttons or more different buttons at the same position)
- osmo4 still seems to have the problem to seek exactly to a specified frame sometimes (not always!). i noticed this with my sample with the chaptermenus, which are single frames. i used to fix this problem in my old sample by adding 0.01secs to the position, so osmo4 seeks this 0.01 more than actually needed for the specified frame but therefore shows the wanted frame correctly. maybe you also want to consider to include this workaround (judging from the time gone since my first sample i dont think it will be fixed in osmo4 soon ;) )?

fantastic! i now tried everything (including switching subs (they are done as bifs text),...
If you want use streaming text aka 3GPP timed text instead of an additional BIFS stream, you only need to remove textNode and fontNode from MuxInfo.
http://gpac.sourceforge.net/doc_bt.php
textNode, fontNode : required string identifier for SRT importing, ignored for other streams. SRT importing is done by creating a BIFS animation stream
carrying the text and fonts modifications (sample available in regression test suite).
The textNode shall be the DEF identifier of the text node to modify (it can be a proto, but then it MUST have an MFString field named "string")
The fontNode may be ignored. If set, it shall be the DEF identifier of the font node to modify (it can be a proto, but then it MUST have an SFString field named "style")
If you use 3GPP timed text you don't need this any more in the scene:
PROTO TextAppearance [
exposedField SFVec2f position 0 0
exposedField SFNode text NULL
]
and
TextAppearance {
text DEF TXT Text {
fontStyle DEF FONT FontStyle {
size 12.0
family "SANS"
style "PLAIN"
justify ["MIDDLE"]
}
}
}
The AnimationStream is still needed.
A sample can be found in the regression tests:
http://gpac.cvs.sourceforge.net/gpac/gpac/regression_tests/bifs-misc-srt-import-3gpp.bt?view=markup
You can use a ttxt file instead of a srt file.
There is a newer version of the 3GP timed text authorhing format ttxt out, to avoid problems with apostrophe.

In my understanding DAR is the ratio between width/height, so the default value is width/height of the current video. The user must only correct it, if the video is anamorphic.
is it possible to make the menus selfrepeating, like in my old sample?
it work sometimes for me if I import raw streams, don't know why.
may be it is better to make it like your old sample.
also the option to keep the link action value when copying buttons might be useable (depends on the structure of the menu of course, eg if there are more 100% identical buttons or more different buttons at the same position)

Changelog:
- Bugfix save standard settings doesn't work
- Include Movie Buttons (bugy)
Can you test the Movie Buttons?
The buttons Change Audio and Subtitle work OK. The next and previous chapter buttons have a bug.
The other buttons doesn't work for me, but it seems to be an generally problem on my system with the script function. See https://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1603673&forum_id=327349 for more information.

try latest osmo4 from here:
http://home.wildit.net.au/celticdruid/mirror/gpac/dev/
This DEV build does not work for me at all. It directly crashes.
When I use the "normal" build from 23´th of July I can play my xvid mp4, but all x264 directly crashes.
Does someone have an idea why this happens? thank you :)

Nice tool. I just wish MPEG4 systems was more widely adopted. But doesn't look like it will be much supported in the near future in either hardware or software (outside Osmo4).
Some say it was made too complex, so supporting it is not cost effective.

MPEG 4 Systems may be more complex, than the QuickTime File Format(mov). But MPEG 4 Systems is, what makes the main difference to mov, in the MP4 File Format.
Like with everthing there are Profiles and Levels too, for the scene,OD ... .
If you are strict, than Osmo4 is one of the few MP4 Player out there.
Most Player out there which claim to be a MP4 Player are only ISO Media compatible Player.
Nero could change that ;) . If a cell phone can render a MPEG 4 Scene why not a Standalone Player?

Hi everyone.
I just spent last day wrestling with trying to put the menus in my mp4 file. It seemed daunting at first, but know everything is quite intuitive.
The problem is that now I can't get the file displayed properly in Osmo4 player. What happens is that the player start playing the menu stream as it was an ordinary video stream. The Play -> Stream Selection menu is greyed out but when I Select File -> File Information -> Root Scene -> Streams I get this:
MPEG-4 Profiles and Levels:
OD Profile@Level 1
Scene Profile@Level 254
Graphics Profile@Level 254
Audio Profile@Level 40
Visual Profile@Level 21
Inline Content Profiled no
** Stream ID 1 - Clock ID 1 **
Scene Description Stream - version 2
Buffer Size 5252
Average Bitrate 0 bps
Maximum Bitrate 0 bps
Stream Clock Resolution 1000
** Stream ID 2 - Clock ID 1 **
OD Stream - version 0
Buffer Size 1038
Average Bitrate 0 bps
Maximum Bitrate 0 bps
Stream Clock Resolution 1000
Seekbar seems to be calibrated for the full length of the movie....but the timer in lower left corner keeps counting even after the seeker gets to the end of the seekbar. After the last frame of the menu is played, all that is shown is a black screen for the rest of the "movie".
When I play the file through DirectShow with Haali's splitter I can see and select both the menu and the movie audio and video streams.
I use Osmo4 0.4.3 dev from Celtic Druid's site (the same thing happened with 0.4.2 also from there), and MP4MenuGUI 0.1.2.7 (I'm not sure but think the I tried with 0.1.2.5 too).
The Streams are as follows:
Movie Video Stream: h.264 encoded with x264 r623 975kbit/s
Movie Audio Stream: Nero HE-AAC 96 kbit/s
Subtitle Stream: Unicode *.srt file with some non-ANSI characters
Chapters: OGG chapter file with some non-ANSI characters
Menu Video: h.264 encoded with x264 r623 500 kbit/s
Menu Audio: Nero HE-AAC with PS 32 kbit/s
I set up all the menus but not all of the buttons on them, as I was just trying to perform a test first.
Menu audio file that I got from DGIndex is about 1 second shorter than the menu itself. It should only play during the longer menu sequences (scene selection), and not during the one frame menus that are positioned at the beginnig of the video file.
So...there it is. If you are still reading this :thanks: :D I know it's a long, boring post but I just wanted to tell all the details I thought might be peculiar for some reason. I hope someone can find out what's going on.
P.S. I would test the sample bond posted, but all I get from megaupload is "All download slots assigned to your country (Croatia) are currently in use. Please try again in a few hours or install the Megaupload Toolbar for immediate access". I'm not exactly a fan of all those crappy toolbars on my system so if someone could mirror the file on, for example, speedyshare I would be grateful. (The country in question is Croatia, and it seems to always serve that page).
P.P.S: The video preview window seemed to not display the right frame. First few frames are just one frame menus..and after second or third it repeats one frame or omitts the other. The later menus, which are all longer sequences are shifted a few frames into the "future". If I close the MP4MenuGUI and then reopen the same file it may happen that different one-frame menus are repeated or omitted. I thought it was the encoded file (since I do not know how to manually select keyframes with x264 or if it is needed at all), but when I opened it in MeGUI through AviSynths DirectShowSource the frames where shown exactly as in the original VOB.
P.P.P.S: As I said, audio part of the menu is shorter than the video part, so is there a possibility to add a function to delay the audio when muxing like in MeGUI? The audio file had the "DELAY 0ms" suffix but it was clearly shorter than the video file and not in sync.
If you got to this part I would give you my sister If I had one ;)

Can you post the scene of your file? (MP4Box -bt yourFile.mp4)
The Play -> Stream Selection menu is greyed out...
This is allways the case if there is a scene. The stream switching have to be defined in the scene description.
Seekbar seems to be calibrated for the full length of the movie....but the timer in lower left corner keeps counting even after the seeker gets to the end of the seekbar.
The seekbar is not very accurate in files with more than one timeline. This is easily the case, in files with a more complex scene description. Normally Osmo4 disable the seekbar in such a case.
In your sample Osmo4 played probably the complete duration of the audio/video track, the time in the lower left could still be counting because the the duration of the scene isn't over or not defined. If you want a propper answer ask Jean Le Feuvre ( http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=327349 ).
After the last frame of the menu is played, all that is shown is a black screen for the rest of the "movie".
You have to loop the menu(MovieTexture), else it will stop after it played once. (You can get some information about differnet nodes with MP4Box -node nodeName.)
When I play the file through DirectShow with Haali's splitter I can see and select both the menu and the movie audio and video streams.
Halli's splitter don't support MPEG 4 Systems.

Hi Drachir....and thank you for a prompt reply.
Can you post the scene of your file? (MP4Box -bt yourFile.mp4)
Here it is:
e:\Video\filmovi\Tko>mp4box.exe -bt tko-menu-video.mp4
Scene loaded - dumping 0 systems streams
The generated file reads:
InitialObjectDescriptor {
objectDescriptorID 1
audioProfileLevelIndication 255
visualProfileLevelIndication 21
sceneProfileLevelIndication 255
graphicsProfileLevelIndication 255
ODProfileLevelIndication 255
}
I can't understand that file but that doesn't feel right.
This is allways the case if there is a scene. The stream switching have to be defined in the scene description.
That seems logical....Thank you for the clarification.

Did you dumb the BIFSText from the right MP4 file?
With this output you could get the impression that it is an video only file.
It is only an empty IOD without ObjectDescriptor for the BIFS/OD track. In this file there isn't any Elementary Stream initialized by the IOD. It is only a free-format file, not an MP4 file.
Shouldn't the GUI take care of all that automagically?
I don't know this GUI, and what you have to do to get a propper MP4 file.
Maybe some one should create a HOWTO with screenshots, how to use this GUI?

Hi, Imoon.
First thank you on a wonderfull tool you made. Hope that I'll get it to work :)
You mention "file paths" in plural. Does that mean I should wxtract to raw the video files of both the movie and a menu....or maybe do you mean the audio and video files of menu only.....or maybe something else?
I tried it now. I extracted the audio and video of the menu to raw (aac and h264) files with YAMB and changed the appropriate extensions in the script (and deleted track suffix as well) and the menu now seems to work as it should. Well almost.
Now I got two other problems:
First, the menu picture won't switch. The buttons still work, and the highlights are changed as I browse through the menu. I suspect that has something to do with the keyframes, but as I said I don't know how to add them manually with x264.
Second, the chapter selection scenes, which are not one frame menus, but sequences about one minute long are displayed for only fraction of a second and then the player changes to the root menu. When I say displayed I also mean that only the button highlights are shown, not the picture.
Any ideas guys?

I mean all mp4 video files. You can leave the audio as mp4 file.
Now I got two other problems:...
With x264 you cant set a keyframe at a specific point. You can use VirtualDub with xvid to set keyframes. Set a zone at every key frame you need and set the option begin with keyframe. Or if you have an only oneframe menu file you can set the keyframe Interval in x264 to 1. So every frame is a keyframe.
And maybe you can :script: (bt)

OK. I'll try it over the weekend. A shame for the x264 though, since it's nicer at lower bitrates needed for 1CD backups.
Edit: Hmmm, but I could encode the menu in xvid and the movie in x264 right? it just hit me now :)
And maybe you can :script: (bt)
I already did :). It's the same script that I posted above in response to Drachir (only it uses mp4 files, not the raw ones).

To set keyframes in x264, you either need to edit the stats file (be careful with that) or create a qpfile overriding the frame decisions - the best way to do that is probably to generate it out of the stats file and then rerun the first pass or go crf.
(You could probably submit a patch implementing this feature (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=120449) to make it much simpler, too.)

sure! You can also use different (supported) encodes (e.g. x264, xvid, jpeg) for the menus.
can you also post the original bt script (it's a little bit easier to read ;) ).

Since I can't play around with this myself quite yet, I've got some questions. I'd like to create a DVD-like menu for a Halo 2 fragvid I'll be putting out at some point in the Fall (probably). The biggest thing I want to do is have an intro, an outro, and different transitions between pages of the menu depending on which way you're going. Are outros not quite supported at the moment? And can transitions between different parts of the menu be done currently? How extensive are the highlight options for buttons? Can I use any image for a button and then have mouse-over and click animations bring up different images? If not, consider those feature requests, pretty please. Of less importance, can I use video shorter than the audio for a given menu page and have them both loop independently?

And can transitions between different parts of the menu be done currently? How extensive are the highlight options for buttons? Can I use any image for a button and then have mouse-over and click animations bring up different images? If not, consider those feature requests, pretty please. Of less importance, can I use video shorter than the audio for a given menu page and have them both loop independently?
Sorry for my delay.
Outros are not supported in the Moment but is planed for the near future. Transitions are now on my TODO List ;) .
You cant use images as buttons, only as background for the whole menu. The buttons are only rectangle or ellipse witch are filled or not. At mouse-over you can show the button or not or you show the button permanently. As a new future (since 0.1.2.9) you can also highlight an other area.
Your avisynth problem seems to be a vista Directshow problem. Because also some MeGui user also post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125121) this error. But some solve it with a clean install.
I have upload a pre version of 0.1.3.0
- Fix: speedup the video preview init process
- Added: support for Mono (tested on OpenSuse 10.2 with Mono 1.2.3)
- Added: use Avisynth 3 on Linux systems for video preview
- Change: Display MP4Box Command line in log
- Change: use a extra Debug.log file for some information (overwrite old entries)
All Linux user please test this version on your systems and report any bugs. Notice that it isn't full tested, MediaInfo wouldn't work, so disable it, and there are some smaller display bugs.
You need to install the lasted Mono (http://www.mono-project.com/Start)with libgdiplus, Avisynth 3 (http://avisynth3.unite-video.com/download.html) and gstreamer (http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/download/). I known that avisynth 3 is in an early develop stage and no filters are available but for my needs it complete enough.
You have to compile the Avisyth3Wrapper (Avisynth3Wrapper.zip in svn (http://mp4menugui.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mp4menugui/)) . Put the lib in the MP4MenuGui bin directory.
You can start MP4MenuGui with mono MP4MenuGui.exe
You can use my compiled bins from sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=180851) or use monodevelop to compile it from source.

That shouldn't be a problem. ;) You could try openSUSE ( ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/10.2/iso ) or an other distribution.
MP4MenuGUI himself works at SuSE 10.0 with Mono 1.2.3 from here http://www.mono-project.com/Downloads .
But didn't tried to create a BT script with it, until now. I will test it if I compiled avisynth-3.0 here and get all working.

I will fix it asap.
You can define multiple menu inputs, each menu input has a video and a audio stream, but only one main movie video stream.

Can you somehow add that feature? I'm trying to make a menu for a dvd. With the quality settings im using, I can fit ~20 episodes per dvd. The problem is, dvd's have a 1gb file size limit. So with the current circumstances, it's impossible for me to create the disc the way I want to because I can only have 1 main video file with a file size limit of 1gb.

I don't know if it fits your needs but you can also try to use extern anchors.
To use this you have to create a file per episode and a main menu file. The main menu file has no movie inputs only the menus. In this menus you can use buttons to link to a episode file. Therefore you have to choose ExtAnchor as Link Type and as Link Action you give in the relative path to the episode file.

That would sound sweet if it did. It probably isn't in the official specs though. But they can always be changed if it is needed.

I was finally able to get an output, but I can't get it to play right. I've got GPAC Osmo4 0.4.2, and it doesn't work too well in that. For whatever reason, there's no sound at all in Osmo4 (that's not a problem with the output from MP4MenuGUI), and it plays the menu on top of the main video, so when I press play after 5 seconds of being in the menu, it starts playback 5 seconds into the main video (not sure if that's MP4MenuGUI or Osmo4). I'd like to get the latest, 0.4.4, but I can't find compiles anywhere, and I have no idea how to do it myself. What are you guys doing for playback?

@The Colostomizer:
I use a self compiled version 0.4.4 on a Linux system and 0.4.2 on win.
If you are importing h264 video files inside a MP4 file, you can try to extract the raw video stream and define it in the script instead of the mp4 file.

Okay. Just looking at your first error, did you even read it?
You are using a 64 bit operating system. Avisynth is 32 bit, and I highly doubt the rest of the programs are 64 bit compatible anyways. This could probably be the main reason for most, if not all of your errors.
