View Full Version : IMGBurn - Misleading message?

I was just (unwittingly) trying to use IMGBurn to burn DVD contents that exceed the maximum for D/L.
Instead of a message stating "Combined filesize too high" or similar, the IMGBurn message was (not verbatim) "Unable to find any layerbreak, you're dead in the water".
Shouldn't/Couldn't there be a more applicable/accurate message to describe the actual situation?

If you were burning direct to disc, you probably would have gotten a message saying it wouldn't fit.
Give me the full details of exactly what you were doing, how big the project was etc and I'll try to reproduce it my end.
Remember DVD DL isn't the biggest media now and ImgBurn will quite happily burn to BluRay etc.

It was a DVD "package" on my hard drive (A joned version of the "movie only" of "BenHur") with a combined filesize of 8.2Gb. I had a blank Verbatim D/L DVD+R in the burner.
When I reduced the combined filesize (by compressing it with DVD2One) to 7.81Gb, IMGBurn offered one layer break and successfully burned the Verbatim D/L DVD+R

Yeah ok, not sure that really helps me.
Initially, the program was basically saying that it couldn't move anything around (i.e. via padding) so that a cell lined up on an ECC block where L0 was still >= L1.
Now I have to be honest, I've probably not tried building an oversized DVD Video disc, I've just never had a reason to.
It is therefore possible that weird things could happen.
It's also NOT really possible to check the final size of a 'build' until a layer break position has been chosen.
I guess a superficial check could be put in place for when the DVD Video files (without any padding) already exceed the size of the disc.
