Hi all,
I'm having a problem with a replicated disc I authored which crashes on some playes some of the time (ie. Toshibas and samsungs and less so on Pioneers). I'll try and explain the disc which was authored in Scenarist 3.1:

It's a complex dvd game with about 1500 questions, upto 4 players and lots of video and audio.
The game has 12 rounds, 7 are chosen at random (same one cannot be chosen twice). I had to split 2 GP's to keep track of which rounds have been selected.
After selecting your game mode (single/multi) - it then randomises the rounds - you are then given an introduction video - then it calculates the first round - then plays the animation for which round number you are on. (all the calucaltions are done on Pre commands in dummy PGC's in the VMG, which have 12frames of black)
After this it starts the round which are multiple choice questions with auto action buttons. Each round is in a separate VTS - then displays your score - then calculates your next round and the shows the round number animation again.
This goes on and on till all 7 rounds have been completed.

The game works fine on software players, our emulators, even dvd-r's (mostly). But the replicated disc crashes in certain players just after the round number animation. But it also works on these players some of the time as well. There's always a default Link command so by deafault it always has somewhere to go.

This has been repliacted twice now and the same issue. The authoring seems sound to me, as this has been played a numerous times.

I've tried simlyfying the code, but there's only so much i can do. I'm stuck as to why this is happening, as it doens't always happen on the same round animation. I'm going to try exporting the script and re-importing it back in, which may take some time as the script is 80MB! and then try to create a disc with this project.
Could it be a bad mpeg? bad VTS? anything at all???
i'm really stuck for ideas about what else to try here.

Hope this makes sense.
any help is hugley appreciated.

What exactly do you mean by "crashing"? Also do the dvd-r's work on the mentioned players?

On the Toshiba and Samsung it looks like it has frozen on the last frame on the video. With the Pioneer the disc just stops. This is repeatable but 100% of the time as some of the time it works.
Regarding DVD-R's, it did occasionaly "crash" but it was just put down to the dual Layer discs, and it wasn't too often.

Hey Yo!

Ah, the fun of iDVDs!

My first question would be, is it crashing in exactly the same place after performing the same tasks? If so, try making a small version of the project with just that section on it to try and narrow down the problem.

It's pretty much impossible to find the problem without looking at the project, so if you want send it on over, and I can take a couple of hours spot checking it. You know where I am so it's up to you, but I guess that the client is probably needing it fixed ASAP!

Good luck.

Cheers,
D.
