Hi, I have browsed a bunch of these forums and I haven't seen anyone doing what I am doing to make and SVCD, so I must be doing this wrong, or just way too time consuming a process. Maybe some of you can help me? I have been doing dvd rips for the past year with dvd2avi - vfapi and sbc and I have been pretty happy with the results, in most cases. But I wanted to try my hand at capturing some TV shows off the satellite and put them to SVCD. I've read doom's guide and VCD help guides - but I am still a little lost here I think. Here are some of the basic questions.
I capture from the digital satellite with S-video in Avi_IO in huffy with an AIW Radeon. My system is a P3 1ghz, 512 mb of ram. I find the quality of the capture to be fine and Avi_IO does a great job. My problem is then trying to join the segmented capture and make the SVCD. I have been doing this.
AviUtil - for Inverse telecine and cutting commercials and ripping the wav file. Then Vfapi.
Then open the project in TMPenc and doing cropping and resize and deinterlace - loading the SVCD profile and save project. Then Vfapi.
Then I have been trying to do the project in CCE. My questions are these - what settings should I be using in CCE - should I be changing anything - I didn't on the first try, using only 2 passes and the file was almost 2gb. So on the next try - I tried doing 4 pass (like doom suggested) and I set the settings to min 2000, max 2500 and avg 2250 - thinking I would get svcd compliance - then muxed the audio in bbmpeg. Now - the file played ok in Windvd, but when I tried to burn it in Nero - it told me the file wasn't SVCD. So I have gone wrong here somewhere.
I read that TMPenc or Virtualdub is good for frameserving to CCE, I would like to try that. Also, how do you join avi in TMPenc to cut out the Aviutil step - or do you encode each segment of the avi capture and then join them later? Should I stick to append avi in Virtualdub? - but I don't like the IVTC in Virtualdub - Does anyone have a better way to do this? Sorry this is a long post, but finger crossed for help :) Cels
