View Full Version : Do you use AnyDVD or RipIt4Me for Ripping & Copy protection etc removal?

I have been using AnyDVD for almost a year now, with no problems. I love the ease of use, the stability, the frequent (free) updates, it was the best 29 bucks I ever spent!

My usual format is:

AnyDVD to rip and to remove copy protection, clean up DVD
MenuShrink
DVD-RB=PRO
ImgBurn

However, I am starting to get the "vibe" that RipIt4Me and it's "suite" of freeware programs might produce a "better or cleaner" Rip, and it seems to be updated to handle the latest copy protection schemes as often as AnyDVD.

Then, to make matters more confusing, I have read that Slysoft is considering re-writing (and improving or upgrading) the "FixVTS" and Ripping software that they currently use.

So, while I have had no problems with AnyDVD, I want to make sure I am getting, the "best, tightest, cleanest, smallest" DVD rip.

So, what is everyone's opinion? Thanks!

Well, I've also used the AnyDVD/DVD Decrypter combo for ages, but now I'm leaning towards RipIt4Me. I just like the idea of freeware better, and it has worked flawlessly the last couple of times I've used it.

I can't, however, explain why or if it makes cleaner rips than AnyDVD. It's just a gut feeling, I guess.

RipIt4Me...
Far more reliable for Region 2 titles...

I use them both as the mood swings. :D

I have found that they both work excellently.

It does excellent job on all kind of DVD's I tested from different regions, protections and so on. Most Of all , It's free.
I always for free software, like imgburn and so on, allot of times they produce better results the one you buy.

I love RipIt4Me (always used to use AnyDVD/DVD Decrypter). It makes very clean rips and has the great 'jump to main menu feature' to bypass all the crap!

AnyDVD has that same feature, does it somehow work better in RipIt4Me?

I find the original DVD-decrypter to still be superb for most disks, and anything modern with suspect sectors I run a full FixVTS against the disk.

I couldn't see how the automation from RipIt4Me would be of much use to me to be honest.

Off topic this thread, but heres my choice ....

AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter to rip

DVDBlanker to blank or strip stuff like FBI warnings, and especially the latest annoyance of forcing you to watch trailers, plus to get the DVD to jump straight to teh menu when doing episodic DVDs

FixVTS for any errors VOBBlanker throws up, or DVD Shrink refuses to recognise DVDs correctly

DVD Shrink to do movie only DVDs that don't need compressing, and also to remove crap from the start of a movie, or edit the start of a movie before passing the uncompressed output to DVD-RB for compressing the big movies

VSO ConvertXtoDVD to convert HDTV to DVD

TMPGenc DVD Author to create episodic DVDs that are spread across 2 DVDs when it will easily fit on one DVD, but just a way of making more money out of us to buy the set

AVISynth to filter cartoons or poor quality B+W movies or episodic DVDs and improve the final quality

IMGBurn to create my video DVDs as Nero sucks at DVD-Video

Not really, I think it is right on topic!

I will try these two, thanks for the suggestion. Anything to reduce the size so that less compression is necessary.

DVD Shrink to do movie only DVDs that don't need compressing, and also to remove crap from the start of a movie, or edit the start of a movie before passing the uncompressed output to DVD-RB for compressing the big movies

Now THIS is interesting, you use DVDSHRINK to delete say the begining of the movie, and the ending credits? I am going to look into this, as other tools to do this seem to be too hard. It has been so long since I used dvdshrink, how do you save the files with no compression?

The only way is to use Shrinks Reauthor mode which means you won't have a menu.
Drag the main movie into the left window => Right click => Set start/end frames

how do you rip with anydvd?either via tray icon option 'rip video DVD to HD' or by having it running in the background while ripping with another application.

edit: btw, shouldn't this thread get moved to decrypting section?

Well, Moderators do whatever you need to do, but I wanted to ask the DVD-RB-Pro users, as I think that they (we?) as a group have a little more experience, (and concerned about quality) whereas on the Decrypter forums, they still are arguing over DVD Shrink vs Nero Recode and CloneDVD!

i reauthor all my movies with shrink cutting the start/end crap. then i use Titlewriter to add the original menu and then shrink it with menushrink. then its off to DVD-RB.

oh, and btw, i use RiptIt4Me.

Also, something weird I noticed with DVD Shrink the other day while using "author" mode to recreate a DVD before passing it onto DVD-RB

Using "no compression" to let DVD-RB do a better job, is what I usually use, but if the movie will fit already I just leave the compression setting to "automatic"

I turned compress to "100%" so DVD Shrink basically just creates the new VOB files without the crap I strip, but this time the processing was much quicker

For some strange reason, if you leave compression to automatic, even though there is nothing to compress as the movie will easily fit on a DVD its processed slower, but if I turn OFF compression, its now processed faster, but nothing needs processing as it already fits on the DVD easily ... errrrr

Try it and see if its just me

I'm not sure. I guess AnyDVD does it on the fly when watching, but I don't think it affects rips? Can anyone clarify this?

The DVD is already 'ripped' so to speak when AnyDVD is running in the background. When you copy/paste the DVD contents using explorer it will come out ripped.

If this make any sense.

You can also right click on the "fox" icon in the tray and select "Rip Video-DVD to Hard Disc". You can also simply point DVD-RB's source path directly to the disc in the drive (using AnyDVD) without ripping to hard drive -- although on my system it is significantly slower than running against a hard drive rip.
