Indeo 5 Stutter/Configuration problem

Ok, I recently installed some old games that use the Indeo codec for video, but noticed that the playback was very choppy, both in-game and standalone.

After tons of checking, I found the problem, the options "drop frames" and "drop quality" were enabled. Practially the second I unchecked them the video played smooth.

However, when I tried the game I noticed it was jittery again. I went back and noticed that they were checked again.

I have tried everything I can think of. I can see no configuration files in the system32 or the codec's isntall directory. The registry keys seem to reference that those settings are off, changing the registry settings does not seem to accomplish anything.

I tried uninstalling but the codec was still there, I even went as far as to manually remove each file, registry entry, and then unregister it from DirectShow using the DirectShow Filter Manager, then reinstalled, the settings are STILL always enabled.

The help files even say that those settings are supposed to be off by default.

Its happening to a friend that tried this codec as well, the settings do not get saved.

It plays choppy ingame, in mpc, and in mplayer2. I tried VLC and it couldent even get the video to play at all, not to mention the sound was extrmely choppy. (the others didnt have a problem with the sound).

Any idea how I can force these settings off?

Which codec are you using? My ligos one doesn't show that box at all, just the pin.

Does the registry actually control the on/off, even if it doesn't stick? Either user or system. If so, then you can always turn permissions to change the key off, and turn them back on if you ever need to later.

I am not too sure what you mean.

As I didnt find any configuration files in the system32 or it's install folder, I can only assume it stores it's settings in the registry. I did find registry keys for it, but modifying them did nothing.

You can find out by using regmon (http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html), and in its include filter, use something like ligos, indeo, or mplayerc.exe.

As for removing permissions, in regedit, you can right-click a key, select permissions, go to advanced, and double click on your user name and any groups you're a part of (typically administrators), checking the box for deny to "set value". This works even in xp home, unlike file permissions.
