:(

So, after looking at past posts etc is the only way to take say a DVD I have (U2 Chicago 2005 DTS) and encode it to 2 channels for my iPOD WITH HFRT (so I get surround effects) is to

1. Demux the DVD to teh raw AC3 or DTS stream
2. Create a Graphedit file with FFDSHOW as the decoder
3. Choose HFRT and 2 channel from FFDSHOW
4. Now - which OUTPUT pin do I get... How do I get a "file writer" to dump this to MP3 or does it first go to WAV??????

Thanks for the help. If there is an ESIER way (aud-x will NOT work with iPOD - right??) then please let me know

U need WavDest.ax to connect to File Writer as WAV.
Something like:

Whatever.ac3 --> AC3filter --> Wav Dest --> whatever.wav (thru File Writer).

But if to encode to MP3, i.e.:

Whatever.ac3 --> AC3filter --> Intervideo Audio Encoder or --> whatever.mp3

Cheers.

Yes, search it as "lame.ax" or "lame directshow filter". When registered, u will see it as "LAME Audio Encoder".

Cheers.

Hey - it works GREAT. I tried a 5.1 test "left, right, center etc" and it works great on the iPOD>

Is FFDShow the best one to use? I can't find ANY other one that has HFRT support.

Comparing the MP3 output to my Sony DS6000 headphones (HFRT from DTS on the fly), the sony is definitely better wthteh "rear". THe HFRT in the FFDshow sounds more like "Side" rather than rear - but still fantastic.

I am surprised with iPODS more people are not encoding 5.1 audio (alone or with video) this way. REALLY REALLY impressive. Even my fiance thought it was great.

I wish it was tweakable.

Is there any good guide on how to build a graph under VB? I would love to write a little front end for everyone.

ffdshow is the only filter I´ve seen it for graphedit use.

Not my area, sorry.

Edited: thru Intervideo´s Audio Processor FX u can also use Dolby Heaphone and TruSurrond XT Headphone or Cyberlink´s if interested. They are somewhat tweakable.

I'd say foobar2K + AtSurround:HRTF would be an excellent alternative.

Rockaria,

So can this be put into a GRF (graphedit) so you can encode to aac or mp3?

Foobar2k is an entirely different proven transcoding(playing) environment like avisynth, besweet/belight, winamp, dbPowerAmp...

You can find some more hrtf related DSP plugins in the list.
