the main movie also is already encoded but you still want to reencode it to fit on a DVD5 ;)

AFAIK menu encoding reencodes the menu if it is over a certain size (that can be set in the ini).
you can't remove the menu that way, either use movie only mode or preprocess.

For many discs reencoding the menu is a waste of time -- because the menu takes so little of the overall space. On those it's better to just keep the menu intact. But on some discs it is worth the effort to make the menu smaller by reencoding -- that's why it is selectable.

Well, if the menus take little of the overall space, their encoding time would normally also take little of the overall encoding time, so I leave that option always ticked....

On the other hand there are motion menus that take say 300 MB on the original disc and encoded at luxury 6 Mbps. Even if this disc is reduced to say 70% by DVD-RB, the re-encoded menu still takes 210 MB, encoded at still comfortable 4200 kbps. In such cases I use the beta viewer/editor and set the bitrate for the menu to 2500 kbps, reducing the size to 125 MB, and allocate the saved space to something else like main feature, better quality extra, or additional language for example.
