Sometimes i buy a DVD from which u just cant see if its original or not. For most USA movies its clear, but this isnt valid for Bollywood (Indian) movies. Sometimes the quality of original movies is so bad...

Because of this, i was looking for a software solution to check whether a DVD is original or not. I found DVD Identifier Pro (http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/).

This tool give this kind of info:

This is an original DVD:

My questions are:

1) Does someone know how easy it is to get those values with a copied DVD? e.g. is it possible for me to burn or modify my DVD in such a manner that this program will display "Pressed DVD" and remove info about Nero (speed etc)?
2) Are there other reliable software solution to check wheter a DVD is original or not?

Im posting in this subforum, cause i think it has to do with the burning procedure.

I would not..

I think i havent been clear enough...

IF its possible, i know that "Pressed DVD" does not perse mean its original. If this is impossible, i know that "Pressed DVD" means original :)

Try burning a DVD+R, with the bitset (so that, to a standalone DVD player, it appears to be a DVD=ROM) - and then analyze it...

Bitsetting cannot be done with DVD-R media...

I don't know if this media code is in the ISO, or burned directly in the leadin. If it is in the ISO, you can probably overwrite the original field with an hex editor. (The real difficulty is to find an editor accepting to load a 4GB+ file, or to work directly on disc!)
You might also try to patch Ner0 (or another burning program) to change its internal ID.

Much, if not all, of this information is in the filesystem, which can be edited with an appropriate hex editor. You gotta know what you are doing though.

Book Type DVD-RW
Media Type DVD-RWWhile there may be access to the area identifying "Book Type", I'd be surprised if there's a way to access "Media Type".

Again, try burning a DVD+R, with the bitset (so that, to a standalone DVD player, it appears to be a DVD-ROM) - and then analyze it with "DVD Identifier Pro"...

Even when you do bitsetting, the drive cannot / does not change the value from the ADIP area.

So a drive that can read that area will still be able to tell you if it's a real DVDROM.

Likewise, burners work on a 'profile' basis and that usually shows a disc for what it is without any regard to the value of the last recorded 'booktype' field.

(By 'profile basis', I mean the 'Current Profile' bit shown in ImgBurn's info panel on the right).

I would have to say that for a writable disc to look like a real pressed DVDROM you'd need to get around those 3 things (Current Profile, ADIP BookType, Last Recorded BookType) - and I don't think that's possible.
Some drives may play dumb, but not all of them.

seta when is doom 9 going to make you a moderatorThat's kind of you to ask - but it's not something I've been interested in, at this forum or any others.

I prefer to be just an equal participant, as I already have more than enough authority and responsibilities in my everyday life ;>}

also seat whats the trick in getting those dvd'sthat say 1-16 times to burn above 4x or are they just a gimmickA fairly new burner and current burner firmware...
