View Full Version : I got a bunch of UnReferenced Audio and Subpictures

After ripping a Hollywood DVD I own with DVDD, I got 5 unreferenced Audio sections and 30 unreferenced Subpictures in the main movie. They are all zero in size. I never got all these before. Is there some setting in DVDR that I might have inadvertently changed or something?

In DVDRB Pro under Input Settings, I "X"ed them all out. Is there any benefit to this seeing as they are all zero in size anyway?

Nah you can remove them. When you flick through the audio channels on your DVD you don't want to see all that unreferenced stuff. So I just run the DVD through PGCedit (http://download.videohelp.com/r0lZ/pgcedit/) and remove them.

When you remove subtitles/audio it leaves the references of them there (as far as I know). Sometimes the DVD comes like that. I've bought DVDs and then found out they have about 15 unreferenced stuff in it. Not good. Actually I made a post about it on here somewhere.

I tried using PGCEdit before and couldn't figure out how to get it to work. My recolection is that it involved a multistep process of entering a bunch of obscure non-intuitive semi-secret commands, where one error will screw the whole thing up, and the error is virtually untracable.

RB has a way to "X" these things out. That doesn't do the same thing? What's the difference.

What is the Title and Region of the DVD?

That isn't unusual, you see one like that every now and then. It's the authoring package used on the original. Just ignore it and run it through DVD-RB -- it takes care of it. The tracks aren't really there, they just appear to be in the IFO.

I've had that a few times, I just deselected the unreferenced audio or subtitles within DVD-RB and let it carry on

Doesn't do any harm and no need to run the source through any other software first

It isn't that difficult. ;)
Here's a simple example (http://www.rippraff.de/Stuff/BlankSubs.htm) how to get rid of unwanted and already blanked subtitle streams within RB so they aren't selectable via remote control.
This works as well for audio streams.

The tracks aren't really there, they just appear to be in the IFO.
But they are selectable, aren't they?
I can't talk about unreferenced stuff but if you blank "normal" audio or subtitle streams and say you have 10 subs and keep only two, it's a little bit annoying to toggle through 8 blanked streams to switch between the two existing. ;)

But they are selectable, aren't theyThat's because they are listed in the IFO. If you remove them from the IFO and it isn't done perfectly with all references, there are several other problems that might happen in command and/or menu processing.

It's better just to leave them there. This is one of the (many) reasons of why I won't address issues associated with pre or post processing. If people choose to do these things, more power to them. But DVD-RB can't be held responsible for the consequences.
a little bit annoying to toggle through 8 blanked streams to switch between the two existingExactly as annoying as it would have been on the original disc (before removal)... DVD-RB didn't author it, it's just backing it up.

Hi setarip,
It is Just Friends and I guess Region 1 USA though I'm not sure. How would I check that?

Hi Rippraff,
It seems like using PGEdit isn't required for this issue, but I'll check out that sample for future reference. Thanks.

That title is a "New Line Cinema" release, so it likely doesn't contain any "special" or newer copy protection - and, therefore, shouldn't require any special ripping techniques...
