I was researching some reports of the "Error in UpdateIFO: VTS_01 VOBID: 01 / CELLID: 02" and found what appears to be a very serious bug in DVDFab Decrypter. When ripping the disc "UNDERWORLD EVOLUTION" to hard drive, the VOB files for VTS_01 are corrupted. All of the VOBID/CELLID combinations in the entire VTS have been set to 01/01. As a result the entire stream no longer matches the data in the IFO file and is non-compliant.

1. I'm not sure whether it applies to other discs -- but I have repeated it with "UNDERWORLD EVOLUTION". I have received reports that it (or something similar) has happened on other discs as well. But I haven't personally tested them yet.

2. I tested this using DVD Fab Decrypter v3.0.2.5 (released on Oct 13th) -- I'm not sure about earlier versions, but indications are that it is there before this version.

I recommend against using DVD Fab Decrypter until this issue has been resolved.

I've reported it through the DVDIDLE website. Hopefully they'll get it fixed soon.

Great to know -- I use dvdfab decrypter when the lightning uk original isn't up to the task. Thanks!

Just as an added note: The bug seems to be only present in the version 3 and greater releases of DVD Fab Decrypter. I just ran the same disc with v2.9.8.3 (the last v2 update I have) and it worked correctly.

I have had the same problem on ST: TNG discs and on, God Help Me, Stick It. Soon as I switched to pre-3, worked fine. I thought it was just me. Hopefully your intervention will get it fixed. Thanks.

Well, I told them exactly what was wrong. Hopefully that will be enough.

Just to make sure this is clear -- this problem doesn't just apply to DVD Rebuilder. No matter what software you use to backup the ripped files (e.g. DVD Shrink) -- they are incorrect and will cause problems. Each of the cell references in the IFO's PGC table will point to a cell that doesn't exist...

Hi jdobbs,

Thank you very much for the bug report.

Please send us all the .IFO files on Original disc, then we will check the problem.

A recommended way is listed below:
1) Open an Explorer window, and navigate to VIDEO_TS folder of the DVD.
2) Copy all files ending with .IFO to hard disk.
3) ZIP the IFO files on hard disk to one file. Name it with a readable filename, like Stealth_UK.zip.
4) Send the zip file to fengtao(at)dvdidle.com, you need replace (at) with @.

Best Regards,
Fengtao

Hi.

I've sent you the IFO files -- but I'm not sure that they will be much help. As I mentioned in the report, the problem isn't in the IFO files, it is in the VOBs.

Here's what I see:

1. On the original DVD in VTS_01 (the first and only PGC) there are two VOBIDs, 1 and 2. The are a total of 28 programs using 80 cells.

2. After ripping with DVD Fab Decrypter, the structure has been changed. Many of the cells are no longer referenced. That makes sense because you are correcting it. As a result it now had 28 programs using 29 cells.

3. Also after the rip you are renumbering the the cells. Instead of two VOBIDs it now has only one, and the CELLIDs increment from 1 - 29. That also is ok -- as it appears you've been forced to remove cells, but you need to keep the cell labeling within standard.

The problem is that even though in the IFO you have renumbered the cells from 1-29 -- if you look at the VOB NAVPACKs for all of VTS_01, every cell have been rewritten with VOBID=1 and CELLID=1. So you have a single CELL that is over 4GB long, and 28 cells with unique IDs referenced in the IFO that don't exist in the VOB files.

Just wanted to post an update for those who use this software. I tested the beta release of DVD Fab Decrypter v3.0.2.6 today and it appears to have fixed this problem.
