I installed wmp 11 beta, before I ever even thought about encoding.
now I am trying to make wmv with surround sound to stream to the xbox 360.
The only method of mainting surround sound, is from my reading to use wma 9 pro.
However I only have/see wma 10 pro. And when the file is played using the xbox 360 I only get 2 channel (L&R). where as using graphedit, and seeing the file play on the pc, Ac3filter, shows all 6 channels.
So my geuss is that wma 10 pro, does not play nice with the xbox 360.
So how can I get my wma 9 pro?

You don't need to go back to WMA9 Pro. WMA10 Pro is backwards compatible with the v9 decoder.
AC3Filter is showing 6 channels? Why is AC3Filter decoding WMA? Are you sure AC3Filter isn't forcing 6 channel output on all stereo input?

as of all documents i've read the xbox 360 does not support wma pro 10, only wma 7-9 and 9 pro, so then it plays it the wma 10 in stero.
Umm i'll have to check the graphedit to see whats actually decoding the sound.
maybe I screwed up the ac3 setup.

The 360 predates WMA 10 Pro - so no wonder the documentation doesn't reference it. Technically WMA 10 Pro is still in beta.
The audio tag for WMA 10 Pro is the same as in v9, so old decoders must be able to decode the bitstream.

so that would mean i'm doing something wrong in the encode?
hmm, it might be
or maybe under vista (which is the only mce I have) the wmp 11 is killing the stream to 2 channel audio.

Windows will only fold down multichannel WMA to stereo if you have set up your sound system as stereo in Control Panel. Otherwise, it'll play the full 5.1.
How did you encode the 5.1 WMA anyway?

i actually fixed it. wooot
before i was just using the .vob as a source file, and was getting screwed up sound.
now I used dvd2avi to demux the .ac3 file and put the .vob in for video, and the .ac3 for audio and it WORKED!!! YAAA soo happy.
but now that i have your attention.
How do I, or do I have to correct for the delay?
the .ac3 file says it has a -92ms delay.
if i have to fix it. how would I do it?

You could use DGMPGDec and Avisynth to load the video (.d2v), load the audio (multichannel WAV) and then offset it with DelayAudio().

I've always used AC3 Delay Corrector, but it seems this program is no longer being actively developed. I did find this app: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/AC3_Delay_Corrector.htm
It seems to do the same thing and more.
