You need to do some reading and googleing.
It sounds like your DVD Burner does just about everything.
If you want to make backups of your DVDs to watch on your TV, then use either DVD+R or DVD-R, depending on which type your TV's DVD player likes. Trial and error and or google can help with this decision.
If you want to have a 4 GB floppy, and both write and erase to it, then get DVD-RWs. I would not reccommend this, as I have never felt comfortable with CD-RW. It fails too often. DVD-RAM is a much better option for this kind of use, but getting the discs here in the US can be expensive.
If you want to backup your Playstation 2 games, this can be done, but details are somewhat out of the scope of this forum. Do some searching, it's not difficult to find out.
As far as media goes, I have had excellent luck with Ritek/Ridata DVD+Rs. I have burned about 400 or so in the past 3 years and have had only a hanfull turn out to be coasters (one today as a matter of fact). They are very cheap, about $25 for a 100pk from newegg.com. This assumes you live in the US of course :)
No idea what would work well with DVD-RW or DVD-RAM.
As far as CD media, anything really. That technology is braindead these days.
Flashing the firmware is only really necessary if you are having problems with the drive - ie it doesn't like a particular kind of media. In some cases flashing the firmware with 3rd party code can make the drive region free. If you want to do this, do some searching, there's lots of information on the web about this sort of thing. Be aware you can kill the drive.
Also, it helps to proof-read your posts and to break things up a bit. Your post was very difficult to read. We're not l33t h4x0r d00dz h3r3 m4n!!!111!!111
:) All in good humor. Welcome to Doom9.
