As I understand it, DivX 3.11 replaces some Microsoft video codec or something, right??? Anyways, I'm wondering is there a way to remove DivX 3.11 AND get that codec back, or am I screwed and have to reinstall windows from scratch to get back that codec???
Thanks
(and sorry for the n00b question)

Why does it matter? You can decode anything in this category (ms-mpeg4, divx311, any other mpeg) with ffdshow..

Three words:
Sansa Media Converter :(
Anyways, if I can't figure out what is wrong with it now, then I will probably get ffdshow.

Why was DivX 3.11 so popular whilst 4 and 5 were still out (which I know both stunk)?

I never used it. Messed with 4 and 5 a bit before discovering XviD and never going back.
IIRC, DivX 3 had a really mature and tuneable toolchain. It was just better for awhile, even if it was a bear to use.
I looked up the sansa media converter - looks like a little converter app from sandisk for a PMP.
What's the deal? I couldn't find any specifics..
