For those who don't know: The Sansa Media Converter is a dumbed down version of Arc Soft's media conversion software designed to convert videos for the Sansa e200 series MP3 video players. These players can only playback .mov files that are chopped up, so this software converts videos (including avi) to .mov format to play on these players.
With that of of the way...
Okay, I "accquired" a movie and when I tried to convert it, it went from 49% to 100% in an instant and would essentially freeze up (if I left it long enough, it would fail for reasons: unknown). Now, I have seen this before, it is probably a bad frame. So I tried "reaccquiring" it, and it freezes at the exact same spot!!! So I assumed it was a corrupt file and installed VirtualDub to remove the bad frame, and when I opened the file it came up with this error:
Couldn't locate the decompressor for format 'DIV3' (Microsoft High-Speed MPEG4 V3 [Hack: DivX Low-Motion)]
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, as Windows Media Player, are not suitable
After doing some browsing, I discovered I needed a hack version of DivX (DivX 3.11) to fix this. I installed this, and not only would it open in VirtualDub, but suddenly the video would play past the bad frame no problems. Even better, when using the SMC it went past 50% no problems!!!
So I leave it and come back in about 5-10 minutes, and it has failed for reasons: Unknown!!! I do not know at what percentage point it failed at. So I try downloading the official DivX 6 codec, and when it got to 100%, it came up with the Windows "This program has caused an error and will now be shut down" dialog box!!! I followed some links to Microsoft's website from the dialog box, and apparently the problem is with DivX (official, possibly conflicting with the unofficial verion?).
So now I am here (again). Does ANYONE know what is wrong with it?!? When I get back home tonight, I'm gonna try uninstalling both DivX codecs and try one at a time, since it is clear I didn't have something necessary installed to properly view certain kinds of DivX AVIs movies (I have converted DivX AVI movies before that play perfectly), but if anyone has some tips on how to fix this it would be very, very helpful.
