i have some audio i've made in surround format in a multi-track
app. there are six mono wav files - l,c,r,ls,rs,lfe. what tools
are available to me to make this compatible with burning to dvd?
do i first transcode them down to a single audio file? are there
free or open source tools? sorry to be obtuse but this is new
to me. what's the next step, then? i've used dvdstyler to create
a burnable video_ts folder. what's a good way to get to where i
might follow this process through again with my surround audio.

For standard DVD multichannel audio, u can use PCM, AC3 or DTS.
PCM is basically free, no need for encoding, but it uses too much bandwidth at 6-ch.
DTS encoders are all payware (and expensive).
But for AC3 we have a free encoder called Aften (thanks to kurtnoise, tebasuna and others for developing/testing it, I donīt remember the name of the original author). At this moment itīs at a very decent (actually really awesome) state.
About buring this "audio" to DVD, surf the forums for DVD authoring to find what u need.
Cheers.
