Ok, so I'm trying to backup Rome Volume 3 and I keep getting a Corrupt Stream has been detected error in my Logs. I have done no preprocessing, and beta viewer/editor is off. Here is a sample from the log file which is too big to upload (1.2 mb)

[10:46:51] 00068 00006 -- error collecting header extension.
[12:45:54] 00067 00380 -- error getting MPEG header.

I then tried using version 1.10.7 on the exact same source material and it worked fine. What is rather strange is that procoder took about 240 minutes with version 1.10.8, but took over 300 minutes with 1.10.7 and worked. So it's almost like version 1.10.8 is causing procoder to skip segments or something. Just let me know if you want any more info.

Is the rip OK? If it can't find the header I would think this indicates bad navpacks.

What did you use to rip the source? This is almost always an indicator of a bad rip...

Can you send zip up the REBUILDER.INI, REBUILDER.INF, REBUILDER.ECL files and send them to dvd-rb@dvd-rb.com?

Is this the NTSC version of ROME?

Did you rip the source again for the encode with v1.10.7? I just did a line-by-line comparison of the two sources (v1.10.7 and v1.10.8) and the code in those modules is identical. I then compared every other line in the entire set of sources -- and nothing supports a difference in processing that could account for this.

Could you rerip and try v1.10.8 again? I'm pretty confident this was a bad rip.

Actually I did not rerip when I tried 1.10.7. I used the exact same source for both tries. I actually tried version 1.10.8 3 times before trying 1.10.7. Unfortunately I don't have those files from the 1.10.8 try because I just deleted and tried with 1.10.7. Sorry Im not much help... I will try starting from scratch. It's just strange that one version worked and the other didn't on the exact same source material.

I just experienced the same problem with same error pattern as reported by The Seeker
I am using DVD_RB 1.10.8 Pro. Never had this problem before using identical software package as before.

Edit:
I could add that the *.m2v files play fine on the PC.
The original rip also plays perfectly on the PC.

Same here with VTS 05 of the R1 disc Thank You For Smoking.

jdobbs
5th October 2006, 11:34
Was it ROME as well? What did you use to rip it?

[EDIT] I must be blind. I didn't even notice the title was in the post...

SpazzHH
5th October 2006, 11:36
I ripped mine with AnyDVD first. Then reripped with DVDFab. Same result.

jdobbs
5th October 2006, 11:44
Cool. I'll work on it today. So it was ROME, R1, Vol 3, VTS_05?

SpazzHH
5th October 2006, 11:52
Thank You For Smoking R1-VTS 05

Also received the same error with the new X-Men disc when ripped with AnyDVD 6.0.7.0, it went away when ripped with just DVDFab.
Same error with King Arthur-Directors Cut. Only in the X-Men disc did the error go away when reripping.

Sources were partly preprocessed, but the VTS's the errors occurred in, were untouched.

In all cases AnyDVD reported no type of copy protection other than RCE.

I just did "Thank You For Smoking", NTSC, R1 yesterday. No problem.

jdobbs
5th October 2006, 12:25
What version of AnyDVD are you using? I used 6.0.6.3. I noticed there is a newer version (6.0.7.0) that came out on the 25th -- I want to make sure it isn't the cause of the problem.

Also, can you try it without the processing? It makes it almost impossible to debug.

[Added] Can you give me the specific steps you used to rip with AnyDVD? I usually run DVD Decrypter over AnyDVD to create an ISO on my hard drive. I then mount the ISO with Daemon Tools. How did you rip it?

SpazzHH
5th October 2006, 12:27
I get the error starting with VTS 05 seg 1 VobID 2 CellID 1

The error is 00051 00005 -- error attempting to write NAVPACK.
Warning: Corrupt stream detected

The AVS files and the encoded segments play fine with MPC.

6.0.7.0
I'll try it unprocessed, but I don't have much hope of success since I didn't touch any of the VTS's I'm having trouble with.

Hmmm... I'm having suspicions about AnyDVD's new version. It's really odd that it worked for me with 6.0.6.3, but not with 6.0.7.0. Can you tell me how you ripped it (file/iso)? I'd like to test it.

I'll rerip it today with the new version and see what happens. File mode?

@Anyone who can repeat this

Can you look in the D2VAVS directory and tell me the length (in bytes) of the .FLG file for the segment that fails? If possible, maybe a directory listing would be good.

Thanks.

Oliver Twist, Region 2, PAL, VTS03

jdobbs
5th October 2006, 18:35
Did you do any preprocessing?

I'm really getting nowhere on this. I just bought X-Men, The Last Stand, so I could see if it would cause the problem. Installed AnyDVD v6.0.7.0 and copied the files to my desktop (so I would match SpazzHH's method exactly) and started the encode using v1.10.8. I even downloaded it and installed it again to make sure it was an exact match of the scenario.

It isn't done yet -- but it sure looks like it's working ok...

Something is different -- if it wasn't a bad rip, I'm open to suggestions, because I've just about exhausted all possibilities.

Sharc
5th October 2006, 19:01
Yes, VobBlanker for removing 1 of the Extras, but did not touch the main feature where I have the problem now.
I also blanked the remaining extras with the beta Segment Viever/Editor in order to gain more space, plus reduced the Menu size and the credits further, finally I Allocated Saved Space to Feature, without problems.

Just tried to "Rebuild" again: Crashing happened later this time (around 20% of completion; before it crashed at around 15%).

jdobbs
5th October 2006, 20:10
Something else is going on here. I just finished X-Men -- absolutely no problem. That's two of the reported discs that finished without issue.

Sorry, but the software doesn't act differently based upon who is running it... and I just don't see any other explanation other than the preprocessing or a bad rip.

Sharc
5th October 2006, 20:16
Just made following observation, I don't know if it is relevant:

The file list in DVD-Shrink / Re-author mode shows 8 Titles as Extras (1 still frame + 7 titles), plus 1 feature title, plus Menu.
In Full-Disc mode, Title 2,8 appear as combined

DVD-RB Segment Viewer (old and new) show only 7 titles as Extras (1 still frame + 6 titles). The 8th title (a 400 MB file as displayed by DVD-Shrink) is not displayed, neither under Extras nor under Menu nor under Main feature. It just seems to have disappeared or is invisible.

Does this help?

jdobbs
5th October 2006, 20:31
Is that the one you said you removed with VOBBLANKER?

Can you mail me the IFO files? Also, if you could, can you mail me a directory listing of the source directory? dvd-rb@dvd-rb.com.

Hey jdobbs

I'm also experiencing problems, receiving the "WARNING: Corrupt stream detected" errors.

I'm trying to backup The Score (PAL). Scenario, as per usual:

1. Disc was ripped using DVDDecrypter, file mode, and AnyDVD 6.0.5.0.
2. Unwanted audio streams removed using IFOEdit 0.96
3. A few extras removed using VobBlanker 2.1.1.0 (though the VTS affected wasn't touched)
4. Project loaded into DVD RB 1.10.8 (Backup mode: Full backup)
5. RB-Opt 0.23 was used to adjust bitrates
6. CCE 2.70.02.06 was used
7. Errors pop up

I have all project files, so let me know what you need. Log:

Just made a new PREPARE without any preprocessing by Vobblanker. Now running a new attempt for ENCODE+REBUILD.

Still get this discrepancy between DVD-RB Viewer and DVD-Shrink regarding the Title 8 which is not visible in DVD-RB viewer/editor.

I also noticed that the studio logo cells that are part of the Menu in the original disc are not visible in DVD-RB Viewer/Editor. (Needless to say that I would prefer to blank these and use the freed space for something better ....)

Any way you can post the INI file you were using with your encode of either "Thank You For Smoking" or "X-Men"? I'd like to try it with your exact settings...

Also as a side note, I tried this again last night. Reripped and used CD Check to verify the ripped files to the ones on the disc. They were found to be identical. Again the encode failed on rebuild with slightly different error message relating to the corrupt stream warnings. No preprocessing at all. Only blanking segments with RB. Interested in the log files?

Yes, please. You say you did blanking... did you blank in any of the other discs that were reported as getting the "Corrupt source" message?

Could you spell out exactly the steps you took? What segments were blanked?

Also could you send me the three matrices you reference in your INI file? Send to dvd-rb@dvd-rb.com

Thanks.

What happens when you try it without the editing?

ATM I'm running another encode on a totally un-edited source (ripped using DVD Decrypter [file mode] + AnyDVD 6.0.5.0 -> DVD RB 1.10.8 in 1 click mode [no batch this time]). will report back when the job finishes.

I'm using AviSynth 2.5.6.0

I did a simple test.. ran xmen3 with no preprocessing and no blanking and it processed fine. then i went into the dvdrb editor, blanked a few segments.. then hit rebuild and viola.. tons of corrupt stream warnings. then i go back into the preview/edit and unselect the segments for blanking, hit rebuild, and no errors.

THAT'S GOOD TO KNOW!!! :D I was following that same line of thought (at least partially). I currently have a job running that is using the exact blanking procedures as SpazzHH -- hopefully I'll have something to work with when it completes...

If I can repeat that, I'll have this fixed today.

Thanks Trahald!

[Added] Which segments did you blank? Any in particular needed? I know I did some test blanking yesterday or the day before -- but I don't think it was with that source... I think I may have used the new editor...

Did you use the new or the old editor?

this was the new editor. i randomly blanked stuff.. vts 2 v1c1 vts 3 v1/c2 vts 6 (main movie)v1/c3 . i picked them in sequence

Looks like it's even more specific than that. It seems to only happen when some of your ECLs use a custom matrix and others don't... no wonder it took so long to find it. I'm still trying to find exactly what causes it. I think it is also the root of the problem reported by Whitespliff here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=116441).

:scared:

I think I know what's causing it -- but I can't seem to make the connection to the viewer/editor...

Ok -- fixed it. It wasn't really related to custom matrices, but they made it more obvious. The problem was stray characters from previous encodes being left at the end of ECL files. It was caused by the way the buffering was done for read/writes of the ECL files.

I'm looking at one more quick fix and hopefully will get v1.10.9 out today.
