im guessing this has been answered before but i searched the forums and didnt find an answer.

what are the advantages of sp2 versions of cce vs sp. im using 2.70 sp and im wondering if it is worth the upgrade for doing quality dvd backups. is there any difference quality wise?

the faq just links the cce website for comparison which is useless.

The difference lies first within the Premiere support. SP support the usual Premiere versions as well as Pro 1.0 and 1.5, but SP2 is restricted to the Pro versions of Premiere.
Further, SP2 has the following improvements:
- Provides API for Import / Export Plug-ins
- Adds Frame Size Conversion / Enables the conversion from HD(1920 x 1080) to SD
- Modifies 'Encoding Area Setting Window' / Adds 'Cropping function'
- No Limited Frame Size of Input File
- Supports Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 / Enables to specify Unicode File Name
- Enables to work on 64 bits

I don't think it's a good idea to encode HD material in MPEG-2 anyway. At bitrates over 10Mbit/s for 720p and over 20Mbit/s for 1080p, I would rather stick to AVC which enables 1080p content at 6Mbit/s and less.

I've just finished comparing doing a backup of a dvd with DVD-RB and CCE SP trial 2.70.02.10 and CCE SP2 trial 1.0.0.10.

I was surprised to find that on the encoding part the SP2 was 20% faster than SP.

Pity both are way out of my price range so back to Basic for me.
